I had a few scaly patches that were not red or itchy... I used coconut oil on them and they are now all gone... I did scrape off the scales before applying twice a day... What does yours look like, does it have drainage and redness???
It's my six year old and it is eczema in some areas and some kind of dermatitis everywhere else. No there is no drainage. Dry skin definately is a causal factor, her skin is rough everywhere and I mean everywhere, torso, arms, legs, face. We have been slathering the coconut oil and it has made an improvement. It's not gone though.
With eczema it is kind of strange but the itch comes before the rash. You get itchy then scratch then the rash appears. So if I can stop the itch....
Oatmeal baths or baking soda baths may help... I have been soaking for 10 minutes in a bath of mineral sea salt, Epsom salts, and iodine then slathering on the coconut oil before bed and my skin feels wonderful...
I wouldn't have a problem putting my 5 yr old granddaughter in a baking soda bath nightly...
Hope your child's skin improves soon... smile
I used to get eczema before I cut gluten out of my diet . . . just a thought. I like coconut oil on my skin, but IMO it's unlikely to heal a rash, though it might help until you can eliminate the cause..
