Yeah, that happens to me every time I eat cooked food, my period starts like two days later after not having it for two months or something. :/ I’ve been doing a lot better now, though. I hate periods.
definitely not a coincidence. there’s no such thing. ;)
one of the most powerful breakthroughs for me on this path is that i now take full responsibility for my body. anything that occurs is something i did, or something i ignored.
women are lucky to have an extra detox system built in, but make sure you don’t get low on iron from the blood loss.
I was “perfectly” raw for 3 months and haven’t gotten my period and then went crazy for a week with bad foods (not too junky but not raw) and got the heaviest period of my life. So yes it happened to me :)
While diet can definitely affect your period, the reason you get it in the first place is because every month you ovulate, and when the egg doesn’t get fertilized it evetually sheds its lining, resulting in menstruation. The only time I never got my period was when I was pregnant. I don’t think it’s normal for a healthy, pre-menapausal woman not to have a period. But what the heck do I know!!
I keep waiting (2 years) for these periods to stop. I’m nearly 45. I will say if i can stay 100% raw, I am able to avoid the migraine that comes on day 1. Recently someone recommended natural progesterone cream to balance the estrogen dominance that is inevitable the week before. Anyone with experience with this product by Restored balance? I have been using it for only a week.
This brings up an interesting question for me. Many of you mention not getting your period regularly while on a raw diet. I too have found that when I’m eating in a way that feels light, satisfying and healthy, and exercising frequently, that I don’t get my period as often. Now since I’ve gone raw, I’ve pretty much thrown everything I’ve ever been told about health from a medical perspective out the window. So what about the idea that a woman is meant to have her period every 28 days (or thereabout)? Is a regular period a myth, or is it a sign of malnutrition if we don’t get it regularly?
my period is always on time. if not i freak out, so i suppose that is a good thing. perhaps some people’s bodies are just more sensitive to diet changes. how diet changes us is different for each person i suppose.
there have been a lot of articles floating around on this that i’ve read. i even read a book that said your period was not THE indicator of your cycle. in other words you can still ovulate and not get a period.
only domesticated animals bleed monthly.
i personally don’t get it anymore and i’ve been checked out by a GYN and everything looked perfect.
there are two reasons in my book that you wouldn’t get your period: 1) BAD-you are anemic or in some way deficient… your body can’t afford the blood loss. 2) GOOD-you are clean inside and don’t require the blood loss for detox.
oh, on the other side of the spectrum, and what might have caused the heavy flow… i read in “Diet for a New America” that excess fat intake (animal OR plant) can cause premature onset of menses and heavier menses. just some more thoughts… =)
@pianissima: Other great apes experience menstruation, with typical cycles spanning from 29 days to 37 days in chimpanzees.
