Oh my oatmeal cookies
The batter reminded me of raw oatmeal cookie dough, and my girls loved it too, so they are dehydrating right now but I love them already.
1½ cup ground almond meal
1 cup soaked dates
½ cup honey or sweetner of
choice
3 cup whole oats soaked overnight , puree after soaking and squeeze dry
½ cup raisins
2 tablespoon ground flax seed
2 tablespoon oat milk (from the squeezed
oats)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon all spice
1 tablespoon coconut butter
¾ teaspoon
salt
Night before:
Soak the oats and dates.
Next day:
Put dates in food processor (without the liquid) and blend until very smooth.
Blend the oats in a blender with their water and squeeze through a cloth like making nut milk, reserve the milk and add the oats to the food processor along with all the other ingredients except the raisins.
Blend all ingredients until fully processed. The dough should be firm like cookie dough.
Stir in raisins.
Drop by spoonful onto dehydrator sheet, and dehydrate on 105 degrees for 8 hours. (although I have already eaten a few and it’s been about 4 hours.)
Let me know if anyone has any improvement suggestions. :>

Hi frangipanni, from what i have heard, you CAN order raw oat groats, however, the majority are steamed prior to sale to prevent spoilage. They are fabulous, I love them.

can any one tell me why oat kernels (seeds) (groats) are not raw? I have a flaker and use organic raw oat kernels for all sorts of things. I am learning about Raw eating so perhaps I am not quite on track here. I will give these a try with the rolled oats I recon they sound great

Hi Feebee45, that is one of the reasons I love raw cooking, you forget a few things or add a few extra and it can still come out pretty damn good! I based the recipe on a killer baked version I've had for years and tried to duplicate. I also eat the batter, a lot of the batter, well, actually, probably only half the batter gets dehydrated. lol, anyhoo, i hope they were good!

I have the batter ready to go into the dehydrator right now - and i forgot the almond meal and didnt have coconut butter and they still seem really great! I just added some almond meal (just half of what was called for). I also forgot the sweetner - but felt that it just doesnt need it. I tasted ALOT of the batter! I think they are going to turn out great.

Oat groats are not raw, but you can order sproutable oats from www.sunorganic.com - don't order the groats; get the ones that are for sprouting.
Yuna - Good to know about the roller (where do you get one?) and that Alissa Cohen sells raw rolled oats - awesome!
I'm thinking raw chocolate chips (made in the freezer and then smooshed into the top of the cookies when they come out of the dehydrator) - I've never been a fan of raisins in cookies or anything else, but I LOVE oatmeal/chocolate chip cookies. I may use oat groats, though, because these sound soooo good I don't want to wait to order raw ones?!

oh cool, that is an excellent idea, thank you yuna!

you can buy an oat roller. then you can get fresh raw orgaic oat groats from the store and roll them, or buy the oats already rolled. i think you can get them from www.alissacohen.com. That'll look more like oatmeal cookies. You can blend everything in but the raisins and oatmeal flakes then stir them in. Then you can pat the down really good, aybe with a smooth cutting board on top and take cookie cutters to design them and then dehydrate in the dehydrator.

I heard about the great oat debate, "Are Oats Raw or Not". When I asked, the sales woman assured me they were untreated, unheated etc...but who really knows, so I am going to try the recipe with other raw grains sprouted and see if I can maneuver the same or similar results!

Hi Mothergoose9, whole oats are similar to cut oats, only the cut oats have been chopped up. I believe you can sprout the whole oats.

Are whole oats and steel cut oats the same thing?

I offered them up finally after 8 hours for an post school snack to the kids and they scarfed them down. They are a hit here, hope they come out the same for everyone else!
