a tart drink, with all the fiber from the greens leftover. i find that green smoothies are a little too sweet for me and i don’t get much green “mileage” out of them. the play between the tart citrus and the sweet apple in this covers up the bitterness of the greens nicely. and a bonus is that it turns into a kind of frappe when you make it with spinach. ENJOY!
half of a lime, peeled, cut in fourths
half of a lemon, peeled, cut in fourths
1 apple (i use half, but use a whole if you prefer sweet to tart), cut in fourths or smaller
6 celery stalks, cut in
pieces
1 knob ginger (optional, but adds zing!), peeled makes it less bitter
--------------
3 BIG handfuls greens-- spinach is best for the beginner, i use a combo of kale, dino kale, and beet greens)
juice all ingredients except greens.
pour juice in a blender (mine isn’t a vitamix, i just have to blend longer) and blend GREENS till VERY green and smooth.
option: because this involves quite a bit of clean-up, you could make 3 or 4 juices ahead of time and just add the greens in the blender whenever you want to drink it.
variations: use half of an orange instead of a lemon, stalks from swiss chard instead of celery
