One might call that detoxing…altho’ when I’m raw my moods tend to be steady. But if this is your first time raw I would assume that you’re definitely detoxing. Give yourself time and don’t give up on the raw food thing…it’s always worth it!!!
Definitly sounds like detox. If you can get a copy of Matt Monarch’s raw success it offers a very understandable explanation of this process, but basically your cells are dumping loads of toxins into the blood and it is overwhelming excretion and then you feel sick. Fasting might make it worse because you could dump even more. If you have a juicer, start adding green juices to help alkalinize the acid waste you are producing. This will pass and you will feel much better. I felt great the first week and then had this and it also came with some super severe cravings for junk and sugar which I couln’t resist and ended up back on SAD. I also went back to raw on 1/1 and so far, so good. I wish you good luck and I hope ya’ll start feeling better soon!
BTW, Monarch also rec’s colonics or flushing enemas to help the body get rid of all this junk. Many raw foodists have done fine without them, though.
I agree that this sounds like classic detox!
I’ve been raw for a while, but I just started a juice fast and have ended up with some pretty hefty detox myself. I highly recommend detox baths, green juices, and warm lemon water. Those are what is getting me through.
There are many recipes for detox baths, but I like hot baths with:
-Dr. Singha’s mustard bath (you can find it in the bath section at whole foods, mine even offered it in a tester size). Sounds weird, but feels great and speeds the detox along. You can also google “mustard bath” and find a recipe for a homemade version. I’ve tried a couple recipes, though, and they didn’t feel quite as nice as the store-bought version.
or
-1/4 cup of Epsom Salts with 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide and a knob of fresh grated ginger (place it in a tea bag for easy clean-up). This is great for giving you magnesium, which helps ease detox symptoms.
I’m amazed what a huge difference these baths make. It’s hard to believe, but I feel like a different person after just 15-20 minutes.
I drink warm lemon water constantly these days – it supports the liver during detox. Just squeeze half a lemon into a glass of warm water and sip slowly. Ginger is a nice addition, too, and it also supports detox.
Good luck! I agree that it is totally worth it once you make it through. It will get better!
If you get too miserable, eating more raw fats, lightly steamed veggies, or even a little brown rice are non-invasive ways to slow detox down a bit.
Hi Rawpanda & Chrisspie123,
Sounds like a detox to me too. Here are few tips in addition to the ones listed above:
This is my first raw week and I’ve been having the WORST headaches (I went straight to being raw too…)
I was thinking that maybe it was because I didn’t fast first??
How important is the fasting part?
I’ve also been really out of it—like, kind of airheaded, and I’ve been sleeping REALLY hard!!!
I’m going to stick it out, though. I think it will be worth it!
