Hi good people

I just found goji berries here in thailand for a very cheap price, but the do taste a little smoked...
I have two questions, is this a common taste...?
I have only had organicgoji berries once before and they did have an aftertaste of something I cant pinpoint.

And do you have a special way to eat or prepare them?
