Brazil Nuts

I have some of these in the shell. If I crack them to eat…do I soak them first, or just eat them as is? Marcy

They should be soaked first to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors and acidity. I’ve seen anywhere from overnight to 24 hours. I suppose it depends on your hunger…

  • Carmentina’s right. Always soak your nuts, especially the rich ones like Brazil nuts an and macadamias. They contain enzyme inhibitors that make them difficult to digest, an make you a little tired. :)

  • I soaked mine for 6-8 hours, since their one of the oiler nuts they don’t need to soak as long as say almonds do, then I dehydrated them to a nice cruch, they were fabulous plain, but I’m going to marinate some in oil and seasonings then dehydrate them again
