Recipe Directions

Salad:

Put the greens in a bowl like for any salad. Open a pomegranate and scoop out the seeds. This may take some time, because the seeds have to be picked out without popping them. Put the seeds in a separate bowl.

crush the walnuts by hand or lightly in a food processor or blender.

toss the seeds, walnuts, and oil on top of the greens, stir, and enjoy!

Pomegranate Juice:

heres the fun part

take 1 pomegranate, bang it on the table like you mean it, until it gets soft. roll it against the corners, sit on it, squeeze your stress out on it. This may take a couple of minutes. Careful of any soft spots on the pomegranate where the juice may come out. These spots will be where you want to stick you’re straw when your done!

for a more thorough way to make sure you get the juice popped out of every seed: after you are done bangin the pomegranate, cut open the very top and pour out the juice into a cup, scoop out the seeds and send them through a juicer. then refill the pomegranate with all the juice, and stick a straw in the opening on top.

....I'm flabbergasted at my own ignorance. I never knew you could do that with a pomegranate! I always assumed pomegranate juice didn't exist until commercial processing machines came around to grind them into concentrated syrup. So you really can just clobber this fruit without busting the side out of it and staining everything you've ever owned and loved with the evil that is pomegranate juice?

Seriously folks, this stuff is HEINOUS. I remember cooking in a galley on board a schooner in the Pacific Ocean, and the only memory I have of this particular culinary experience was the terrible yellow-brown stain I had on my skin (through gloves!) from picking pomegranate seeds out of a pomegranate. That, and running to hurl over the leeward side every 15 minutes like clockwork. Any sailors out there will give me a sound "Amen" if they recall their first time on a large body of water for any considerable length of time. It puts the heave in "heave ho!"
