A general rule is 'the harder the nut, the longer the soak'. I soak cashews for an hour or two and almonds overnight.

Hi Vegas, I usually soak nuts overnight, about 8 hours.

auntsissy, I've never heard of eating lima beans raw. I'm not sure if they're digestible in their raw state.

I made this and didn't like it. Not to leave negative feedback but if you are not fond of a really mild taste don't make this. I was looking for something to take along w/me to work to dip carrots/celery in. I made it.....tasted it...added a ton of other things to it (lemon juice, tomato, cayenne pepper, spring onions) and still wasn't happy with the taste. Does it get better if it sits in the fridge over night? The cashews just seem to mellow out the flavor too much. Also... what would you use this on? Maybe zucchini noodles...I am new to preparing raw food so i am fairly clueless.

Hi Vegas, I usually follow the soaking guidelines set out by Gabriel Cousens in his book Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine. Unfortunately he does not advocate eating cashews since technically most of them are not raw so they are not listed. The range otherwise goes from almonds for 12 hours to pine nuts, macademias, and pistachios which need no soaking. Walnuts and pecans are one hour and seeds (sunflower and pumpkin) are 4 hours.

How long to soak beans? I know this has nothing to do with the recipe, but I'm new and started sprouting lima beans(lg).

Cause I havent got it all figuted out yet. That's why I appreciate comments like this. Thats just how long Ive gotten in the habit of soaking them. I'm definitely open to suggestions and constructive critisizm. How long would you suggest, not only for cashews but for other common nuts as well?

Soak cashews 12 hours? That's a long time! Why so long?
