New Search

I know many of you have been confused by the new search on the site. You may not know it, but the search is now much, much more powerful! In fact, you can now use the search to find recipes by equipment, find members, and search forums (among others).
Take a moment to read this overview of the new search:

Thanks to emtpdmom for taking time to write this up!
Also, we still have the recipe tags for finding recipes in various categories:

Will the recipe tags eventually be in alphabetical order as before?
2. I am confused by it, so far.
I am confused by it, so far. When I put the recipe that I am looking for in the search engine I find page after page about people TALKING about potatoes, instead of recipes!
Very frustrating.
3. Christina, are you using the
Christina, are you using the Advanced Search feature? If you're not sure how to access it, check out the link Kandace provided in the initial post of this thread. You can zero in on just recipes from the Advanced page. Just click the "recipe" check box, put in your search terms and click Advanced Search at the bottom of the page. If it still doesn't work with your login, perhaps you should click on the "Feedback" link in the bottom right corner and report that to Kandace and Ray.
Good luck.

4. Thanks for posting this. I
Thanks for posting this. I didn't realise there was an advanced search feature. Maybe advanced search could be displayed alongside the regular search button or something to make it more obvious. Now that I know about the advanced search, I agree - super useful!

stRAWberry: This is a good idea. Right now, they are shown in order of most used.
We're glad to see that more of you are using the advanced search - this feature was one of the most requested features we had from the old site. Although it takes some getting used to, it sure beats what we had before in terms of flexibility!
6. Thanks for the explanation!
Thanks for the explanation! That helps a lot.
And actually, I am Christina. :-)
THIS is the godlike creature known to the world as Mike Patton:

Christina, I realized my error when I looked at your profile later in the day, and have just edited it. I'm glad to have been of help. We all just need to be patient a little longer while Kandace and Ray fine tune the site. I'm confident the finished product will be worth the wait.

8. Might I suggest that, next to
Might I suggest that, next to the Search field and button at the top of each page, there also be a link labeled "advanced search"? The way it is now, it is not obvious at all that the way to reach "advanced search" is to run a blank search. Currently the feature quite hidden.
Aside from that, my main other requests are for larger text size all around, and higher contrast text/background. The current design is quite a strain on my eyes. Other than that, the changes are looking good, thank you!
9. Can we still see the food
Can we still see the food pictures in a bigger format?
It's a very inspiring thing.....don't know how to do it since you changed the site. Please help me. Thanks.

"Well, we were having an issue with the pictures when we moved to the new system. I had to make a quick decision between them and I chose the smaller ones, the large ones were causing big issues.
However, I will replace the big ones for the recipes again as I have the time. It will just take some time for me to drop them back into place. I apologize for the appearance at the moment!"
to sophia...any search still gives you access to the advanced search..it is between the search field and the results in blue letters...leaving the field blank is a quicker shortcut to it, since most times you will get too many results and need an advanced search anyway:)
