Getting There!

We're making good progress with the new Gone Raw!

We've got everything moved over, and we're in the middle of sorting out inconsistencies. We've got our work cut out for us making the site look presentable - there's still a way to go. But it's working, it's staying up and that's a good sign.

In order to move things forward, however, we'll have to take the site down for a few hours tonight. This will let us update the database and update some pieces of the software. We expect this will take place from maybe 8:30PM to 11:30PM PST. If you visit the site during those times, you'll just get a friendly reminder that we'll be back soon.

Thanks again for all your support, and please do keep letting us know about issues as they arise!

Just so everyone knows, I've performed the maintenance, and the site is back up. Should be a bit faster.

Hi, I'm on a power Mac and since the upgrade, the fonts are tiny and pale, no images appear and the site looks totally anemic. I know from friends who are also subscribers that they are loving the new site. So... my question is- what is the inconsistency here? It seems like a weird question but I can't figure out why I'm not experiencing the site as fully.
thanks,
Jill

I'm using a MacBook and I'm thinking if you just upgraded to the latest version of Safari (if you haven't already) that should work..as I'm using Safari..or you could try Firefox.

Hi Jill, not sure why you're seeing things so strange. I do have to admit: the fonts are a bit pale for my taste. Definitely we still have a way to go on the styles. But it's strange that you're not seeing images, especially if you're seeing them on other sites...

I did make a lot of changes last night, so you might just try quitting and restarting your browser, or holding Shift while you press the refresh/reload button. That should in theory force the images to download again. Trying another browser should most certainly fix the problem, but I use almost nothing but Safari on a Mac myself!

Hi, I like the new goneraw site, but I hope I will soon be able to use the feed like before the reconstruction!

Another thing is that the recipe pictures are kinda small...not sure if this depends on the camera.

Hi Ray, I usually use Firefox. Tried your suggestions. Looks better in Safari but wondering why Firefox is an issue.
thanks!
Jill

ray wrote 7 weeks 3 days ago

Myrtia: yes, I will definitely fix the feeds. We'll have lots o' feeds!
RawKidChef: yes, most of the images (both user and recipe) are really small right now. I did that because the big ones were causing big problems, I just have to go restore the sane ones. Hasn't been exactly 100% smooth over here. :)
Jill: Because of some changes I made last night, I think some browsers will have gotten confused. This shouldn't happen again in the future, I hope!

Apparently we had a few hiccups tonight. This should be solved. Sorry about that!

First posting date on threads
Ray, FYI, I just noticed that the first posting of a thread doesn't show the date.

Keep up the good work. GR just keeps getting better and better.

EDIT: Well, on closer examination, I find that it IS there, just not in the first section with the thread title. I would delete this post, but can't find the link to do so.

Hi there,

I lost all my saved favourites recipes from my profile. How do I get them back?

Many thanks in advance

I am noticing some recipes missing out of my saved recipes. The one I can't seem to find anywhere is the "Real Hummus" recipe with a date in it. I've tried doing a search and can't find it, and I even googled the recipe and tried to get to it from there and it brought up a page of recipes, but it wasn't on it. There are quite a few blank lines in my list of saved recipes. There is the date and time, and the "delete" selection but no recipe title.

hi ray...of course i would like to thank you for all the hard work you are doing with gone raw...i am sure moving the site is no easy task

if you can answer these questions i would really appreciate it:)

will a list of our own published recipes ever appear on our profile page again?

will i be able to edit my own recipes again, there is no edit feature now

can i visit the site without being automatically logged in?...cant do that now:).. can't log out

update!!!thanks for the link to log out:) http://goneraw.com/logout

will the hundreds of links for recipes within the site ever work again since they all seem to have new addresses now?i have quite a few links in my recipes , and i cant edit them to change them to the new ones

there are some missing recipes, such as ofek's real hummus, do they still have to be moved from the old site?

i don't see any way to add a new recipe or forum topic...am i missing it?

i get an error message whenever i subscribe to anything, or edit a comment as follows:

Database error: user 95553 not found in {subscriptions_user} table!

the above problems happen on mozilla firefox

this message appears on IE:

Warning: Table './goneraw/accesslog' is marked as crashed and should be repaired query: INSERT INTO accesslog (title, path, url, hostname, uid, sid, timer, timestamp) values('', 'node', 'http://www.goneraw.com/forum/cipralex', '12.107.142.93', 0, '32f7caf5344f3305e0bb4e8096a830ef', 32, 1227013406) in /home/demo/goneraw/includes/database.mysqli.inc on line 128

i don't know if this will help with any of these problems i am having

sorry about all the questions , i understand you are very busy:)

The look is ok but YOU CAN'T TYPE IN A QUERY AND LOOK UP RECIPES! Isn't that the whole point of this site? lol

I remember finding a recipe for Zucchini Pizza bites that I really want to make today. So I type in Zucchini and not a single recipe with Zucchini pops up?????

I hope you can fix this soon!!! It's pretty annoying.

evergreen wrote 7 weeks 3 days ago

hi john... on the search if you type in 'pizza bites junebelle' you may find the recipe... there is currently no address on that recipe so i can't link you to it:)...hope this is the recipe you are looking for

edit...

I REALLY LIKE the advanced search features on this new incarnation of the site. GOOD JOB! I couldn't find things in the forum on the old site.

FOR FINDING RECIPES ON THE NEW SITE

If you click the search button (leave the field blank if you like), you can get to an advanced search feature. There, you can specify what ingredients you're looking for in a recipe, check the recipe box to specify that particular search type, and voila! You recipe search is returned. For the zucchini pizza search, I put in the following:

zucchini AND pizza type:recipe

And got back some wonderful results!

Now if only I can figure out how to return 80/10/10 recipes ....

Hi Ray,

Did I miss something or will you still have the Mac widgets? Mine doesn't seem to be working since you moved your site.
Thanks.

RawKidChef's picture
RawKidChef wrote 7 weeks 2 days ago

I didn't know there were mac widgets. How do i access them?

kandace's picture
kandace wrote 7 weeks 2 days ago

ybl_8257,

Lots of people put 80/10/10 recipes into an 80/10/10 category. If you go into the advanced search, you can choose 80/10/10 under the heading "Only in the category(s):" and this should help with that search!

To Kandace, RE Waterbaby:

Kandace, I have Waterbaby on the phone. She did not receive the email you sent to her Alltel account. Could you please resend to her Gmail account. Since her Princess account seems to have been deleted, she can no longer send you a comment and doesn't wish to create a third account. Thanks so much.

ybl_8257 wrote 7 weeks 2 days ago

Thanks, Kandace

I've tried doing an advanced search for 80/10/10 recipes. I checked the recipe checkbox and selected the 80/10/10 category. It asked for a keyword so I chose the word "the" (thinking that should be in every post at least once!). I got back one recipe. Harumpf. Please let me know if you've found a better way!

Found my saved recipes this evening. Go to your profile. Click on the word "recipe" where there are about 5 recipes listed. My "recipe box" list showed up there. Good luck!

hi ray and kandace..would it help at all for us to compile a list of the missing recipes in our recipe box? ...if i mouse over the delete button on the blank line , i can see the old recipe number.i wasn't sure if they are not moved over yet or are lost in (cyber) space:)

evergreen's picture
evergreen wrote 3 weeks 5 days ago

just wondering if there is any news on our missing recipes? i still can't find ofek's 'real hummus'..also , could you please reassure me that i will, at some point ,have the ability to edit my published recipes:)
p.s. still see this error message after posting comments: Database error: user 95553 not found in {subscriptions_user} table!

emtpdmom wrote 3 weeks 5 days ago

Evergreen, maybe you could start a thread with a catchy title where people can post requests for copies of favorite recipes that are currently lost in cyberspace. A lot of us have saved recipe copies on our computers, and I suspect others print them out. From comments I've seen on other threads it appears there are other members who are also looking for "lost" recipes. I've already checked my files (and searched from several angles on the site) and am sorry I can't help you out with the hummus recipe. But there's probably someone out there who has a copy.

I'm still getting the database error, too.

evergreen~

If you start the new thread that emtpdmom suggested, I'll post Ofek's recipe that you are looking for. Starting that new thread will consolidate "lost" recipes that will help Ray/Kandace recover them (if possible).

Ray/Kandace~

The lost recipe's original address was: http://www.goneraw.com/recipes/2247-Real-Hummus. Is this useful?

osoniye wrote 3 weeks 5 days ago

Hi Ray,
Thanks for all your hard work. The site looks great.
Under the old system, it used to be possible to see all the threads of one member on one screen and then click to see the whole thread. I've tried to do this recently and didn't have any luck. Is there a way?
Thanks again,
osoniye

emtpdmom's picture
emtpdmom wrote 3 weeks 5 days ago

Morning Osoniye,
If you go to a member's profile and click on the "Track" tab, you will see a list of all the topics to which they have contributed. To find their individual postings you have to open each topic and scroll. I've also searched, without success, for a way to see just the individual posts (including my own) by member. I've tried using the Advanced Search several ways and just putting in the member's name. It shows where their name appears within posts, but not posts they have contributed. If someone has figured out how to sort by the posting member's name, please do share.

Now that I've had some time to work with this fabulous new site, I think the individual posting list is the only feature I truly miss.

Please register or login to post a comment.
