Raw Hummus

~2 cups

Amazing, low-fat and raw! Adjust quantities to suit your personal taste. I’ve added in 1/4 of a cup of red onion before, with great results.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chickpeas
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 lemon (juice and pulp)
  • 2 tablespoons basil, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 dash red pepper flakes
  • salt & pepper to taste

Preparation

Use a food processor to blend all ingredients to desired consistency.

I think i am going to try this one, all the oil in another recipe i tried made me a bit off lol! Wilkelli~ you can soak chick peas that have been dried to make them raw, just use lots of water to chick ratio, they are thirsty little suckers!

You need to tell people if this is two cups of dry chickpeas to soak or if it is two cups already soaked. I mean, in case someone reads it who is not familiar with soaking chickpeas. It’s a matter of double the amount of chickpeas:-) Thank you for the recipe!

Thank you for the clarification! I will take one cup of dried chick peas and soak them until they are blendable! Sounds SO good! I have only been eating raw for about three weeks and I am semi-addicted!

Another question – after I soak the chick peas (overnight?) do I have to let them sit for awhile or can I use them immediatly?

You can use them immediately. I find after I drain and rinse them, it helps to let them sit in some warm water for about an hour. On another note, you could also try not blending them completely for a chunky hummus – yum!

You can buy dried chickpeas in bulk at most grocery and health food stores. I was just thinking… I bought mine before I went raw, so they might have been dried at a high temp… You could always ask the people at the health food store. Chickpeas take on alot of water when soaked. The ratio is 2:1… so for every cup of dried chickpeas you soak, you’ll get 2 cups of raw, soaked chickpeas. I can’t remember off the top of my head how long to soak for, but if you go to www.sproutpeople.com, all the instructions are there. =)
