Mango is one of my favorite flavors and I’ve been looking for a mango ice cream recipe for a while. Thanks to Tommie for the photo and sharing this recipe, loosely based on a recipe by the Barefoot Contessa.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed mango
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • dash of sea salt
  • agave nectar, to taste

Preparation

Put all ingredients in the food processor and puree. Transfer to a La Glaciere or other ice cream freezer and run until frozen (or freeze in freezer). Put any leftovers in a container in the freezer. Since this is very dense it will freeze rock hard, so remove it from the freezer ahead of time to allow it to thaw enough to spoon.

This looks great. I really like sorbet and am experimenting with a few of my own recipes at the moment. What would you suggest to use instead of agave nectar as I don’t have any at the moment?

Peaches :-)

I would use dates instead. Honey is for the bees, and I don’t agree with the exploitation of domestic animals or wildlife for any reason, and that includes bees.

You could also use banana and possibly omit the orange, since banana is a sweet fruit and goes great with mango.

I just thought I’d mention, Agave nectar comes from the Agave (tequila) cactus, it has nothing to do with bees or exploiting them. :)
