Finally got around to making this! Here's the modifications I tried. For the crust: I used half cup of each of the nuts, and around 4 dried prunes instead of the dates. It gives it more of a chocolate look.
For the topping I also cut the quantities in half and still had more than enough to top the pie. This time I did use dates. It's setting up in the fridge now, so I can't yet tell you how it tastes. It looks GREAT! Taste tested, was awesome! Nice to have the contrast with the darker crust on the bottom and the lighter crust on top. I would upload a pic, but I'm not sure how.

Thanks for sharing this recipe! I made it three days ago and we still have two slices in the freezer. Thanks for the raw apricot jam recipe. I had not occured to me making it like that and it was super delicious. I did mixed the apples in the mixer, and pressed on pulse several times to they grated in smaller pieces blending with the jam. In this way, the filling does not separate from the crust.

awesome. I'm sensitive to nuts and fruit together, so I might make a dehydrated banana crust or something. the filling looks so yummy! If I hadn't just eaten a nut paté I would totally be making that.
