Superfood Smoothie v. 2.0

This is not a sweet, decadent smoothie, but a superfood smoothie that will keep you going for hours on end! This smoothie is strongly modeled on “The New Cacao Beverage” from Naked Chocolate, by David Wolfe. This drink is closer to smoothie territory, whereas the original is more like a nut mylk in its consistency. By the way, version 1.0 was somewhat of a flop, so I came back with this little bad boy!

Ingredients:

10 ounce tea infused water (I like to use 2T of Pau d'arco and 1T of Cat's Claw), infuse for 24 hours
1 ounce cashews (about 1/4 c), soaked 7-8 hours
½ ounce hemp seed (about 2T), unsoaked
.3 ounce goji berries (a little over 1T), unsoaked
1½ tablespoon cacao powder
2 teaspoon maca
1 tablespoon mesquite meal
¼ of a vanilla bean (or 1/2t vanilla extract), seeds only or seeds and skin if you have a powerful blender
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
black pepper (to taste)
½ tablespoon Artisana coconut butter (or coconut oil)
sprinkle Himalayan Crystal Salt or Celtic Salt
1 teaspoon noni powder (optional)
2 teaspoon bee pollen (substitute 1t agave if you like), fresh frozen if possible

Preparation:

1. After infusing the tea for 24 hours, pour into a nut mylk bag placed over a bowl, and strain.

2. Add half the tea to the blender with the rest of the ingredients, and start the blender on low.

3. After scraping down the mixture with the blender running, turn up to high until well blended. Then add the rest of the water, and blend another 10 seconds or so. Pour into a large glass, and enjoy!

gordienali: Sounds absolutely yummy! I wouldn't have thought of making ice cream out of it. :)

I ended up making this sweet and decadent because after tasting- I saw more potential! I made it exactly the same except for the tea, I used yerba mate and then added about 1 T. honey & 1/4 tsp. fresh ginger. Then I stuck it in the freezer and made ice cream out of it! Reminds me of chocolate chai!!! YUMMMM!!!
