Simply Decadent Caramel Apple Dip

Simply Decadent Caramel Apple Dip
Servings:
1 serving if you are me

Holy sweet-tooth luxury!
This is a dangerous recipe to make more of if you are alone in the house. Really much better than SAD caramel sauce.
It goes best with tart green apples.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoon tahini
3 tablespoon maple (maple best for real carmel taste)
4 medjool dates
1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
dash vanilla, OPTIONAL
tart green apples, sliced for dipping

Preparation:

I THINK these are the measurements I used (-ish)...maybe more tahini.
Adjust for your own sweet-salty-tart-tooth.
Process till dates are fully blended in (it’s nice to soak dried dates in lemon-water for an hour before mixing in). I like a little more salt – like 1 1/4 tsp…that really goes awesome with the sweetness,

This is FABULOUS! I made it "as called for" and found it needed more sweetener, so I added about 1/4 cup agave (on top of the maple syrup)...I also used more salt as suggested (about 1 1/4 total). PERFECT! My kids LOVED it!!! (so did I! I found myself eating it out of the container)

oh and it does NOT get hard in the fridge

I loved the thickness of this, but the tahini didn't work at all for me--kinda wrecked the sweetness. Next time, i will soak the dates in lemon water and bump up the maple syrup, leaving out the tahini all together. if I need thickness, maybe I'll add some almond butter.

Thank you for this recipe--my daughter was eying the caramel sauce at WF today. Newly vegan, she's dedicated and asked me about a raw version. Let's give it a go!

This looks SO good! I might sub almond butter for tahini just until I can get tahini. Btw just for those who are concerned about maple syrup not being raw, don't worry because agave is not raw either.

Oh yes, she also makes a strawberry sauce (strawberries & honey) and lets that sit on the crepes for a few hours until they become softer. Okay, now I'm getting hungry.

Renoir, for the crepe shells Alissa just uses 6 ripe bananas, processed and dehydrated until pliable but soild (approx 14h).

Ok, I finally made this last night to bring to a raw potluck today. Boy, it is SO sweet (well at least for me - I am more of a salty person) but it certainly does taste GOOD. It is missing the milky taste of caramel but still pretty much right on the spot otherwise. I added an extra tablespoon of maple syrup and not as much salt or tahini (I had to make my own as the stores didn't have any raw -apparently there was a recall on it?). I added water to mine to make it more "dippy" but I am thinking if I had some nut milk on hand (which I didn't) whether that would add to the taste - I am sure it would. I was surprised how the tahini tasted OK in this - my tahini was a bit bitter so I was surprised that I couldn't taste it. I think it is the maple and dates that really hold this thing together. I am thinking this won't harden in the frig - it will thicken though. Probably would need to add some coconut oil to harden it. I hope I have enough apples - I made a triple batch!

I made this the other night and it was amazing! The original recipe was a little too Tahini-y and a little salty for me, so I added more dates and maple syrup and it was phenomenal. Halfway through gobbling it all up, my boyfriend started shouting "More apples?!! Do we have more apples??!??" haha soooo good.

Simplyraw, can you share the crepe recipe?? That sounds really good!!

They have Apple-Pears at my Asian Market where I get my cheap coconuts from. This sauce will be amazing with them, and regular pears too. Maybe add a spoonful of Maca? (I'm on a Maca kick right now) Oooooh! Can't wait!

I'm luring a friend of mine into rawism. I made a great lunch of various raw recipes amd made the caramel sauce and served with Granny Smith apples for dessert. Her and I were in heaven. Thanks for this wonderfully mouth watering dessert.Definately a keeper.

Some responses...
IN REGARD TO HARDENING IN THE FRIDGE/FREEZER...it could never make it to the fridge cause I scarf it down immediately. If someone does make a recipe that hardens into a carmel shell then please post! (maybe with some cacao butter or coconut oil to firm up?)
YES, I USED MAPLE SYRUP - this is the only recipe I will allow it!!!! (sooooo worth it though)
IN REGARD TO MAKING MY OWN TAHINI - I have used both jarred raw tahini (ARTISANA BRAND) and my own in my Champion. Either is good, but not roasted!

We had some of Alissa Cohen's crepes stuffed with apples.
I sliced an apple tossed it with a dash of agave and added cinnamon.
Rolled the apples into the crepes. Then drizzled the caramel over
the top. They looked great!
I do not know what I did or didn't do, but the
my caramel didn't come out looking anything like your picture.
However, it was still good. Thanks for the recipe.

This looks awesome! What if you dipped a whole apple in it and then rolled rthe apple in crushed macadamia nuts or coconut.. and stuck a stick in it! I am in the desert right now in a tiny hotel room but they have wireless! I brought my blend tec and have all the ingredients so I'm going to try that tomorrow! I made a smoothie last night and it sounded like I was reving up a Harley in there..haha!

I was stupid (or at least absent minded) and went to the store to purchase the tahini and thought there was only the roasted kind to I got it. When I was almost finished making the sauce I realized I went to the wrong food section and that the tahini was in the refrigerated section. As you might guess my sauce was uneatable as it was gross. Let this be a lesson to you all.

Also, by maple do you mean maple syrup?

Odalys, I was thinking the same thing! :) Oh, how I miss caramel apples around Halloween. I am going to sprinkle nuts on mine!

Mish, does this harden if you frig it?

Also, I wanted to ask if you bought the tahini or made your own? My guess is that it is the jarred stuff so I even though I make my own - it always tastes different than the jarred stuff so I think I will buy the jarred stuff so I get the right taste.:)
