Sleeknraw's Thoughts

By sleeknraw

This recipe makes a rather luscious ice cream that tastes a lot like halvah.

You may have to tweak the ingredient quantities to your own tastes, but if you use a good blender and an electric ice cream maker, it takes very little time to throw together.

At a dinner party, I served it to non-raw friends, who were very surprised to find out it wasn’t store bought.

Some variations: For pistachio, add 1/4 cup pistachios and 1/2 teaspoon spirulina before blending. Once ice cream has set, stir in another 1/4 cup chopped pistachios.

For chocolate, add 1/2 cup raw cacao powder before blending. Once ice cream has set, add 1/4 cup raw chocolate nibs for “chips” (optional).

When you all get your ice cream makers, it will be very fun. Oh, as far as the tahini goes, do you think I could use almond butter instead? Or would that taste too almondy? I am not much of a sesame person. Because I make my own almond butter, by blending soaked and dehydrated almonds with some sort of oil. I really want to make this!

Thanks sooo much for pointing me in the direction of your ice cream maker! Are you happy with it so far? Mine is clad in anodized aluminum and I currently just abandon the layer of ice cream frozen onto the sides of the freezing bowl. Hate to waste food, but would rather not eat anything that's been in touch with aluminum, however inert it's supposed to be.

Oh yeah, I made this as an ice cream a while ago, and I loved it. Also, my brother says he hates tahini but he loved it too! lol

I'm making this today!! I tried some in a glass before freezing it, and it looked and tasted like milk with a sweet sesame flavor. YUM. I can't wait to eat it!

Hiya RawKidChef, yes, this treat has a very strong sesame flavor. You could also try cashew or macadamia butter, since either of those should give a good result. I love almond butter as well, but I'm not crazy about it in ice cream. Different strokes for different folks though.

I was also curious, does this have a strong sesame flavor, or is it more or less mild? I might want to try it with sesame seeds. :)

This is a fabulous idea, especially when there's no almond milk on hand. Wonderful instant live ice cream. It's going into my recipe box.

I'm going to try it with some almond butter instead of tahini. It's making me hungry. I got this really neat stainless steel ice cream maker that lets me make ice cream in about a half hour. http://tinyurl.com/4pxwr8. Can't wait to try this.
