Yield
2 cups
Ingredients
3 or 4 large tamarind pods (about 4-5 inches in length)
1/2 ripe mango
5 or 6 fresh dates (if you used dried dates instead, soak them first)
Juice of 1/2 an orange
1/3 cup raisins
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Cinnamon (ground)
Cumin (ground)
Paprika (ground)
Ground garam masala (to taste)
Recipe Directions
1. Break the dry shells off the tamarind pods and remove the tough veins.
2. Soak the pods in water for a few hours, and then press them through a sieve to extract the puree.
3. Blend the tamarind puree together with the other ingredients. Adjust the seasoning to taste. If it seems too thick, add a little more orange juice or water.
4. Store in the fridge. The taste improves after a day or two.
Denzildragon's Thoughts
By denzildragonI've been craving HP Fruity Sauce to go with my raw burgers for a while now, so I came up with this version.
It's not completely the same (probably couldn't be without all that starch and refined sugars), but it's very tasty!
Sorry about the photo. The sauce is a much better color in real life!

Wow denzildragon! What can I substitute for the tamarind? Don't have access to them here. Thanks dude! :)

You could try extra dates, and maybe a splash or two of Bragg's, but it won't give you the richness you get from tamarind. If you don't mind a little non-raw, you may be able to find pre-made tamarind extract locally.
