Halva (Halwa)
I love Middle Eastern fare, and halwa is one of my favourite desserts. It is so easy to make, and it’s very delicious!
2 cup Sesami seeds
1 cup Medjool Dates
1 cup Raisins
1 tablespoon Agave nectar
(dark), Optional
Vanilla extract, Optional
3 tablespoon Cold-milled (ground) flax seeds, For an even higher nutritional value
You can use either Vita-mix, Green Star juicer, or food processor: simply grind together the sesame seeds, dates and raisins. (Or, you can make it even easier, and use tahini). Add ground flax seed (to boost the nutritional value of your halwa
even more).
Add agave if you like it really sweet, and some vanilla – if you like the flavour.
I usually throw in more than one variety of nuts (whatever is at hand).
Also, I add some Goji berries if I have some. In Russia, we make
halwa with raw sunflower seeds – taste is different, but is just as good. Scoop with a spoon and enjoy. :-) Or, roll balls and dust with coconut flakes for a terrific presentation.
Enjoy!
