Here is what is written in Carol Alt's book.
Germinating - A simple way
1. rinse your beans, nuts, or seeds, then soak them in purified water for the required time (walnuts 4 hours) in a glass jar or bowl that is covered with cheesecloth or stocking (I just use my sprouting jar, when I first started I skipped the cheesecloth thing). They should be soaked at room temperature.
2. Afterward, rinse and drain the germinated beans, nuts or seeds with purified water a couple of times. They are now read to eat or use in any recipe that calls for them.
The Book also states this:
Seeds, beans, and nuts are dormant treasure trove of nutrition. Few people know, however, that to unlock them it's not enough to eat them. They need water and time to release their enzyme inhibitors and thus free their full nutritional value.
I hope this helps. I am new to all of this, so if you disagree with any of the statements above, feel free to fill me in! ;)
