Chocolate Cherry "Ice Cream"

I make this whenever I have a craving for something naughty but nice. It tastes like a decadent dessert, but is much better for you than a pint of the commercial brands. Use regular organic cocoa or carob powder for a not completely raw version, or try it with raw cocoa powder if you are lucky enough to have some on hand.

Ingredients:

1 frozen banana, chopped
½ cup frozen cherries
1 tablespoon raw almond butter
½ tablespoon agave nectar
1 tablespoon cocoa or carob powder
1 dash sea salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation:

Process all ingredients in food processor until combined into a smooth consistency, similar to soft-serve ice cream. Either enjoy right away or allow to set in freezer until firm. Tastes great by itself or topped with chopped raw nuts, more nut butter, agave, and/or raw cocoa nibs.

2. This was incredible. I am on

This was incredible. I am on a frozen cherry roll now and this will become a common treat for me. It came out like soft serve frozen yogurt..the nut butter goes really well in this and I left the salt out because I forgot, but I'm adding salt next time. It makes desserts take on a very nice flavor. Thanks shannonmarie.

Thanks for the recipe!!!!
I made a version of this with chocolate brown rice protein powder and a little coconut milk. I stirred in cacao nibs like chocolate chips! My bananas weren't frozen so I am waiting for this in the freezer. I can't wait!

oh, my, gosh...this was soooo good! i actually used 1 c. peaches and 1 c. cherries as well as cacao nibs instead of a banana and only 1 tsp. agave nectar... i had to add a little bit of water to get it to blend up...but boy was is good! thank you!

to add to humanimal... sounds like Cherry Nirvana (the vegan ice cream). :o)
I didn't use agave either. It has plenty of sweetness. I doubled the recipe and added an extra banana and 1/2 C cherries. This is very good! Wish I used less carob powder or cocoa powder instead; the carob was a bit strong... but you get used to it. Very yummy.

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!Thanks so much. I followed the receipe exactly (except I used cashew butter) and it was perfect. I used cocoa, but I'm going to try the carob. Can't wait to try all the variations everyone wrote about. I'm going to stock up on organic cherries to keep frozen ones on hand. It IS like Cherry Garcia. Didn't freeze it, didn't last long enough. My kids loved it, too!!!

This is fantastic! I made it with cocoa powder, beautiful bing cherries & a sprinkle of cacao nibs - left out the agave nectar because it's sweet enough. Tastes better (less granular) straight out of the blender if you can avoid freezing it. My non-raw friend licked the bowl! :)

Great recipe. What's the difference between mixing this in a food processor and doing it with a blender? Thanks.

I love this! I haven't made it with cherries yet because they aren't available where I live. However, I've done it with mango, raspberries and strawberries. I've had it for dinner and didn't feel too bad about the choice. :) Thanks for the recipe.

This is just a method, so feel free to experiment with a variety of different flavors. I also make a strawberry version by swapping out the cherries for strawberries, the almond butter for cashew butter, and leaving out the carob/cocoa powder. The other night I made a cinnamon peach flavor topped with raw almond slices, and I've also been known to make a "banilla" (banana vanilla) flavor. The options are limitless.

Wow, closest treat to ice cream I have had in years! I used carob powder, froze and topped with walnuts. The consistency was a tad grainy (b/c of the carob?) but the taste was amazing.
