Chocolate Cake Doughnuts and Holes
I felt so sinful consuming these! They taste buttery, sweet, rich, and cacao-ic (tee hee). Make sure the flax is ground very fine, otherwise you won’t get the smooth texture. These donuts even help you out with getting your greens. Enjoy…
1 cup flaxseed, ground VERY fine
8 deglet noor dates, chopped finely by hand or in a food processor
1½ to 2
tablespoons cacao powder
2 tablespoon cacao butter (coconut oil works too)
2 tablespoon or so raw, unfiltered, local, and humanely-harvested honey
¼ teaspoon Himalayan pink or other sea
salt
¾ teaspoon Jamaican allspice powder, (YUM!!!)
small amounts of any of your other favorite supplements (I used maca and dolomite)
1 teaspoon spirulina powder
Miz the wet ingredients in one bowl (dates, oil, honey) and the dry ingredients (flax, cacao, spirulina, salt, allspice, supplements) in another. Combine the two mixtures with your hands and knead into a a dough (you’ll probably want to add about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of water to get things to hold well). Form into holes and doughnuts with a cake pan, a cookie press, or your [insert religious figure here]-given utensils: hands! Chill for about 2 hours before serving. Will keep for up to a week in the freezer, though I doubt they’ll last that long…

Really looking forward to trying these donuts. It'll be my first raw chocolate recipe.
Turil a manual coffee or spice grinder would proabably work a treat for grinding flax seeds.

Also, if you are really feeling old school (and by old school I mean middle-ages), you could grind them in a mortar and pestle. Great arm workout and stress reliever...
3.
Basically, you would have to purchase them pre-ground. I'm sorry because I didn't quite realize that at first. Even still, only a few good pulses will do... so not too much of an energy hog.
4.
How do you grind the flax seeds without a food processor? I'm "electricity-free" most of the time, and can do pretty much everything with hand-powered tools, except grind those damn flax seeds. I'd love to know how you do it! :-)

I'm really sorry for not posting the amount... I meant to and I'll do it now! Dolomite is beasically a calcium carbonate powder derived naturally from rock. One tsp has 110% DV for calcium (great for "growing boys" like myself), 100% DV for magnesium (which is another great bone builder), and 20% DV for iron. It's very cheap and easily absorbed, so I highly reccomend it. And kminty3, allspice can easily be subsituted with varying proportions of cloves cinnamon and nutmeg. Thank you guys so much for the comments. They're my favorite part of Gone Raw!

I am soooo looking forward to trying these :) Yes, how much spirulina? I have been looking for a way to hide green stuff in something my son will eat. ;)
7.
what would be a good sub for jamaican allspice powder? I want to make these today and don't have it!
8.
What's dolomite? I thought it was a mountain range in Italy...
