If you haven't tried green smoothies yet, they are Ace - super-nutricious, tasty and quite addictive when you get used to them... Although they have the 'scary' color of green leaves, the flavour is more from the fruit side of ingredients. Green juice can taste bitter and quite horrible, but green smoothies are yummy! Just try it out and see...
1 - 1.5 C fruit/berries (include 1 banana or 1/4 avocado for creaminess)
Large handful of greens (e.g. spinach, kale, lettuce...)
If it's not sweet enough, add some agave or soaked dried fruit.
Approx 1/2 C ice
cubes
Approx 1/2 C water, or as needed
Ideally, the amount of greens should be about the same than fruit, but if you're new to green smoothies, you can start with less greens. The other fruit can be any you like, mango, orange, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, grapes (go especially well with avocado) etc. Red grapefruit and blue-green algae make a great breakfast smoothie if you like
grapefruit...
Add more water depending on how juicy the fruit is and what consistency you like.
Instead of , or in addition to ice cubes, you can freeze some of the fruit, e.g. peeled banana, pineapple, mango, berries work well. Cut up the larger fruit up before freezing so your
blender will cope better. If your blender is not super-strong, you could use crushed ice instead of ice cubes, or smaller frozen berries, like blueberries.
Blend everything until super smooth, adding water or juicier fruits for the kind of smoothie consistency you like.
Pour into tall regular or frozen plastic glass and enjoy!
