I felt like something different and knew I needed to do something with my over ripe pears. Here’s what I came up with. I love the Indian taste from the Cardamon.
Enjoy!

You can do it with or without the greens

Ingredients:

1 pear, seeded, but with skin
2 cardamon pods (or a bit of ground cardamon)
1½ cup water
a few greens, such as sunflower sprouts, baby arugula, spinach, (optional)
1 dash sweetner, such as agave (or to taste)

Preparation:

Put everything in the Vita Mix/ blender. If you are using whole cardamon pods, DO NOT PUT IN PODS…open them with your fingers and let the seeds fall into the blender container. Do not use the outer pod.

Blend and drink. It might be nice on ice. :)

P.S. BENNY...I have always added too little water to these type of smoothies in the past and taken them to-go, only to have nauseating sludge 30 minutes later.

Benny...soooo glad this worked for you. Give the cardamon a try if you can...talk about a "whole 'nother level!" I even snuck in a few dandelion leaves the other day...and I usually hate them!

No edit option in the recipes? Oh well, I am going to try this same fruit to water ratio for apple smoothies, and I bet it will work out famously. Thanks for solving what has been, until now, a mystery to me:D

This is instantly my favorite way to eat pears! No cardamon, so I used cinnamon, but the pear to water ratio makes the perfect texture--whenever I had tried pear smoothies before it didn't work out. I used around half ice/half water to add a little chill.

Five stars!! Thanks so much:D

Thanks for the recipe--and thanks for saying "cardamon"--I prefer that too. And I use the whole pod in my Vitamix all the time and don't have trouble with any woody bits. Not that removing the pod before blending isn't a good idea.

Sam, I think that the woody outside might leave shard-like piece that would ruin it. Its not worth the chance :) The seeds are the only part with flavor and seeding it takes only a few seconds.

Glad it sounds good!

What will happen if we use the entire cardamon pod with the pod?

Enjoy! It is so different...I have to admit that I am getting sick of smoothies so this helped me get some extra greens and fruit in this morning.

Thanks Hippie Chick, I miss my aunt's Finnish Coffee Bread with cardamom so I'll give this a try.
