Servings:
Makes one large plateful

This is a traditional Indian sweet, often consumed at weddings or on holidays.

Ingredients:

2 cup chopped almonds
1 cup date paste
olive oil(if needed)
poppy seeds (optional)
whole cashews (optional)

Preparation:

1. Put the chopped almonds and the date paste in the food processor, and blend until a dough is formed, adding olive oil if necessary.

2. Remove from the food processor and spread over a small baking dish so the dough forms a 1/4 inch thick layer

3. Sprinkle the poppy seeds over the mixture (if desired)

4. Cut the mixture into diamond shaped pieces, and put one cashew in the middle of each diamond.

5. Enjoy!

No, the baking dish is just to contain the mixture, since it(the baking dish) has edges.

Hi, I want to ask is it dehydrated or do you bake it? You have written that you put it into a small baking dish?!

When I made this last night, it was sort of mushy, but when I left it in the fridge overnight, it firmed up quite nicely.

Date paste is just ground up dates with a bit of water in them(if needed). It's easy to make with a food processor.

I am half Indian, and Diwali(an Indian holiday) just passed. I thought it would be a good idea to put down a recipe, however belated, to celebrate that holiday.
