young/old coconuts

Can be used “old” coconuts instead of young ones in dessert’s recipes? Do young ones have a very different taste? Is there any other difference (ie nutritional) between them? Are old coconuts “unadvisable”?

Sorry for too much questions, but i’ve never neither try nor see a young coconut!

Young coconuts have soft “meat” that can be scooped out with a spoon, instead of hard like a mature coconut. The flavor is different, too, but mainly it’s the softness of the coconut meat.

  • I have heard that the fat content is different too although have not looked into it…
