Wouldn't you know it

I bought my dehydrator a few weeks ago – I was so excited! I had all these recipes that I wanted to try.

But now I find myself drifting away from nuts and grains, and eating more fruit and greens.

I guess it is good to have for drying soaked nuts, which I can freeze until I need them – right?

Haha same thing happened to me. Now I use my dehydrator primarily to dry my own herbs to make herbal decoctions and to dry sprouted nuts and seeds. Yes, just freeze them and they should be fine. Cold temperatures retain the nutrients within the nuts and seeds and keep them alive. Have a wonderful day!

i felt that way too when i got it! but who says you need to make nut-loaded recipes to use your dehydrator…

    i use mine:

-to soften and warm veggies tossed in olive oil and lemon (about 45 minutes) right before dinner -to partially dehydrate tomatoes to make richer tomato sauces, or to make my own “sun-dried” tomatoes -to make my own dried fruits -to make flatbreads and veggie patties from the my leftover juice pulp (with flax seeds, zucchini, herbs, etc…) -to make veggie patties and crackers for trips (same, i use mostly fresh veggies or juice pulp)

I only eat dehydrated food when I have PMT, or PMS as the Americans call it, or when I get emotional and want to cheat to stuff the emotions down. It stops me from eating cooked food. That bacon recipe of queen fluffs is unbelievable for my PMT cravings!!

I also dust off the dehydrator when people come to stay or come round for a meal. I think it is very good to really show off and make bread, pizza and all kinds of cool transition recipes to help other people “get” the whole raw food thing.

Oh man, I got the exact same thing… When it finally arrived in the mail I was like ‘yay… but… not now’ and ended up not using it for a while. But eventually you’ll be jonsing for something you need it for, or have some leftover nutpulp you need to dehydrate, or really need a way to use up some extra onions you don’t want to go bad… It’s just a handy thing to have. It’s also the best way to melt cacao butter I know of.

  • PMT? What’s the ‘T’?

I guess that’s what I’m trying to say, I seem to be (naturally) moving away from the transition food. But everything here that’s been suggested sounds good too.

I did buy it primarily to make ‘bread,’ but now I’m thinking ‘screw it, I’ll just have a salad.’

When I got my dehydrator, I realized that I wasn’t very good at making dehydrated food. some recipes were failures, some were successes. I don’t always have the time to try things – but every week or so i’ll attempt a recipe. my biggest problem is that i haven’t gotten good at preparing things. i really want to make pizza crust, but i’m hesitant to try it.

i need to experiment more.. in time, i will. once summer roles around, i plan to make plenty of dried berries/grapes.

Skinnoz the T stands for tension if I remember right. Im lucky in that I dont seem to suffer from it so I cant remember the name!

Im not very good at using my dehydrator either and I think it might be going away for a while. We want to sell the house and it takes up lots of counter space (being round). Its good for making dehydrated stuffed mushrooms from eat smart eat raw by kate Wood

that is the same thing i was thinking…like do I REALLY need this? although i do like crackers for something quick and easy when i am hungry. i am hoping it will cut down on my store-bought raw items like lara bars and flax crackers.

it is also really helping my husband get the calories he needs. when i prepare burger, falafel for him is more raw. (he’s vegan ). I notice though I put like 3 falafels on my plate, eat 2 and give him one.

I think it will help a lot for things when i travel. I can have a few dehydrated things to add to the fresh items I can have at restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

When I don’t use it for dehydrating crackers, breads, etc… dehydrators are great for storing food for long term. Like dried bananas, apple chips, mango, etc. And, of course, fruit roll-ups!

Yes, you can freeze your germinated, dehydrated nuts… I believer there is some enzyme denaturization though. Just some. I freeze cakes, desserts, and dressings.
