Why am I not hungry?

I am quite bewildered! I have been on various diets to lose only one surplus stone for health reasons ( South Beach, Atkins, GI you name it I have been on it) and the more I read the more I have been interested in going raw – I have been semi-vegi for a few years. I have been raw for the past week and I cannot understand why I am not hungry – none of the cravings for sugar or carbs that I usually have – I had a huge vegi thai salad about four hours ago and I am not in the least bit hungry – I have never felt this before on any of my diets. Why? – a very happy New Raw Fooder!

  • well my friend, i’m experiencing the same thing. been raw for a month and i know some raw people eat sooooo much and here i am barely eating or hungry it seems. so very odd for me cuz i’m a reforming emotional eater. some days my diet will consist of: coconut cacao smoothie, some seasoned nuts, avocado and that’s it. i really try to make sure i get a salad in though and i’m aiming to get a green smoothie in as well. maybe it has to do with stomach capacity shrinking? i dunno.

I’m the same way, it’s almost like I’ve lost my appitite, I just have no desire to eat, but what I do is yummy, raw and healthy :)

UM…..do you feel sick? If what you ate is not digesting well, it will stay in your stomach.

If it was a huge salad (I like big salads) then it would last a little longer. Also, I have noticed that often, hunger is thirst in disguise, I find that if I drink AT LEAST two quarts of water a day, I am usually not that hungry a few hours after I eat.

Also, if you have been raw for some time and you are not really hungry, it might be that your body wants to fast. In that case, you should go on a juice fast, or a water fast, which is more intense but you wil not have the energy of a juice fast.

just eat light if you are not too hungry. the problem i get if i wait too long is that i get REALLY hungry and that’s no good. a banana is plenty sometimes.

  • I’ve just gone raw myself about 9 days ago. I am an emotional eater, and also when I’m overtired. In another post, I expressed my disappointment that I haven’t lost weight, which I have a lot to lose, but there have been benefits. One of them is that although I do get hungry, eating raw helps me easily and naturally find that place where it’s time to stop eating, and consequently eat less because of it. I stay satiated for much longer periods of time. Also, no more cravings, or compulsive eating. Desire for sweets/pastry/ice cream are easily satisfied with fruit. When out socially with other people, there is no big fight with myself not to get the ice cream or other desert they are getting. Quite amazing. I believe this is all due by the elimination of many foods that might have been causing the cravings (white flour, sugar, etc) and that much more of my nutritional requirements are being met which otherwise created the nervousness which led to my compulsive eating.

If you are not hungry enough to eat as much as your body really needs, it can be a deficiency of phosphorous &/or B vitamins. Otherwise, no worries. I’ve experienced both – the deficiency, and times when eating lots of greens & other nutrient-dense foods just gave me what I needed so I wasn’t as hungry.

Cooked food is dead food. So the body is not really fed what it needs. Therefore in a short time the body will ask for food. With raw food all the nutrition the body needs is in the food. So it will not ask for more until it needs more nutrition. That is when you need to listen to what it is saying. Like you may get hungry for an orange. Your system may need the vit.C in that orange.

  • I find I have a day where I am ravenous and then a day where I can barely stomach looking at food…It just seems to change and cycle for me so far.. course I’m still very very new to this…

  • I have been raw for 3 weeks. Before raw I was hungry all the time with big cravings. I was eating much more than I was burning and gained 40 lbs in a year. For the last week or two I am not very hungry. I have an appetite but do not eat at standard times. I eat when I am hungry. When I eat a raw dessert I want more but try to wait awhile to see if I am hungry or just want more. Most times I am full for hours. I am eating granola with almond milk, a smoothie, a cookie or something sweet, and a big salad (most days) daily. This is half of what I used to eat.
