i just throw one into most recipes that call for something savory. also you can make onion bread (recipe on here).
I’ve gotten spring onions every week for the past month or so in my CSA too :-). I usually don’t OD on onions, but these are so delicious and seasonal that I couldn’t resist. I used them in thai slaw, mock tuna, and guacamole. For the asparagus, you can cut them into thin diagonal slices and add them to salads. Maybe you can also try marinating some? just a thought. My CSA’s asparagus didn’t make it this year. I love my CSA!
Thanks newbie. The asparagus idea is perfect. Because we have a lot of lettuce to eat! We even got freckled butter lettuce. Never had it. This asparagus is so good… I’m sure I’ll enjoy it!
I have lots of green onions… too bad I can’t make a meal out of them! Sounds like I need to do some shopping to use my green onions. That’s the thing… you think you don’t need anything since you have CSA… but you do! You need everything else that goes with that food.
I think I’m going to make the green onion nut pate The more onion, the better. A month? Oh! I hope we don’t get it next week!
I’m eating asparagus right now in my zucchini pasta with the “better than alfredo sauce” from this site! good stuff!
“Cheese With Spring Onions” recipe by Zoe. I just went and bought green onions to make some tomorrow, cuz it sounds so yummy!
Yes, they are Spring Onions! Wow, I’m going to try them. I am trying the green onion pate for lunch today. I don’t have peppercorn so looks like I can use part of the recipe for the cheese w/ spring onions. Sounds delicious. And sounds like asparagus is quite versatile… or easy to use on almost any recipe. It’s those onions… :o) Thanks all!
I would make pickles with the onions. Recently, a cookery programme was using this seasons asparagus dipped in soft boiled egg. I thought it was a good match to dip the spears into something gooey and soft like that. So, what about making a lovely cream cheese or hummus and dipping them into it.
Pickles? Wow. We love raw pickles and if I can use spring onions instead, that would be perfect. I wonder how many more/less I need… Thanks for the ideas.
sweetpea – That’s funny, I was just going to suggest it – asparagus is AWESOME with creamy dips! :)
When I was growing up, my mom used to take whole green onions and eat them with dip too. She’d just dip them in and crunch. I like the pickle idea too
I had some asparagus with lemon juice, olive oil and a little salt – very good and simple. I’ve also had it with a balsamic vinagrette, tomato and green onion.
Now I’m getting hungry, LOL.
bitt – Something savory – eh? I’ll keep that in mind!
I did try the green onion nut cheese. Yumm!
Try this Raw Asparagus Salad with Dijon Vinaigrette recipe from the “Angel Foods” book (its on page 94 if you get lost) The Dijon Vinaigrette (made with lime juice and omitting the prepared mustard) dressing is one of my favorite recipes from the book. Its great on non-asparagus items as well…

I’ve got some asparagus today. I think I’ll make a creamy pea dip for them!
I loved the green onion cheese, too, & I wonder if the asparagus would be good to dip in the cheese.
