What to eat when you have a virus?

I have no appetite - I had some bread last night, and some OJ during the day (I'm not 100%raw, don't shoot me, lol). Bread is something I have really rarely but it seemed to be what my body was craving.

I have no fever, cough, short of breath - my doctor says I have a virus. The general adage is to feed a cold and starve a fever - what should I be eating? What do you eat on your raw vegan diet to speed up recovery and to make yourself feel as healthy as possible while sick?

Thanks guys!

i usually try to eat anything i can which is rich in vitamin C.

if you can get some herbal teas in you such as white tea, green tea, jiaogulan etc they've all shown to be anti-viral.

Now is the time to do a Juice Fast. To Help your body rid itself of the virus and other toxins that lead to the immune system being so low it picked up the virus in the first place.

    Enjoy

Add some cayenne to your juice for an extra kick, and to help relieve congestion. Garlic is also great for illnesses.

  • Listen to your body if you have no appetite. Your body wants to spend its energy fighting the virus and if you have to digest anything it interferes. Just be sure to drink a lot of water since your body will be cleansing itself when you're not eating.

There is a reason why the body doesn't have an appetite - it wants to concentrate on fighting the virus rather than spend the energy in digestion. It is a good idea to listen to the body. Juice (it gives you the all the vitamins and minerals without the added burden of digestion) and herbal teas are great ideas. I don't follow any particular protocol when I am sick. I probably just eat whatever the body craves for as long as it is natural and healthy and preferably raw. I do appear to recover much faster from cold/flu after I went high raw. Near and during a cold I take a lot of ginger/lemon/green tea and echinacea tea. Garlic, turmeric, ginger, etc. have good anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties but if you are not used to these herbs/spices it might be hard to take them. Foods with zinc may also be beneficial for the immune system.
