What are your Raw-ligious beliefs?

Raw PassionRaw Passion Raw Newbie

Being here has made me realise how many different reasons people for being Raw, but also peoples opinions on what is natural and human evolution - I'd love for you to share with me!

Me:

I read the book Japanese women don't get old or fat despite the fact its not even vegetarian, but the japanese have the highest life expectancy and lowest obesity rate in the (evolved) world. They eat a HIGH amount of fruit and vegetables, yes there food is cooked, but unlike the s.a.d they cook to preserve enzymes and minerals. I read this before going raw and I think there in correlation between eating as much unprocessed fruit and veg as you can.

So although I do love Raw, when I do eat Raw I eat a lot of Vegan Japanese cuisine, brown rice, udon noodles, tofu, stir fried vegetables and sea food. Its cooked but I think it's the next best thing. Oh and green tea, I am mad for green tea.

I think my current thoughts are, as long as were eating as many fruits and veg as we can, as long as were not boiling them to death and preserving their life, limiting our sugar and eating as much raw as we can, we're on a good track.

Share with me your views please. :)

  • Fruits and veggies are a must. Greens should be eaten as much as possible as well. But we're all different, so as long as we're following guidelines we know to be healthy--we should eat the nutrients we crave (whether that be fruit sugars, greens protien, or nuts and avocados fats) and that make us feel good--I guess you could say a form of intuitive eating. Also consciensious eating: we should enjoy our food! Eating it slowly, presently, and stopping when we're satifisfied.

although I'm not religious I do believe that we could live to be much older than 100 by eating a mostly raw, high fruit diet. I believe eating wild/organic exotic fruits is a must because that's what we're meant to eat (biological habitat is tropical regions I think). I once heard somewhere that someone lived to be 210 by eating wild raw acorns and berries. Not sure if it's true but it's really cool and the possibilities of a raw diet are endless. Lots of bacteria rich, high enzyme foods, promote longevity.

ps I love green tea too :)

Nutrition is only one aspect of taking good care of your "Body, Mind and Spirit". When I started out, I tried to be a fanatic about eating raw foods. During just one bout of stress, I realized that raw foods alone is not enough. Now I eat a combination of raw and cooked - mainly due to convenience and time issues. To take a holistic approach, you got to eat good food, be active physically - exercise, and you got to do something for your spirit, too - I meditate. The combination of the three works quite well for me. And if you venture a little bit into spirituality you will know that living to be 100 or 200 or 300 - it just doesn't matter.

I became a vegan after seeing Earthlings. I've wanted to go raw even before I became a vegan, because I wanted to rock climb competitively and was researching the best diets for peak fitness and performance. I believe I read Fast Food Nation around that time as well. Due to injuries I haven't been able to go further in rock climbing, but the interest in raw remained. Now that my dieticians are agreeing to let me transition off the canned hospital formula I've been on ever since my stomach tube was inserted last year, I've ordered a Vitamix blender and I can't think of a better or more convenient way to go raw. Just blend and juice and run it through my stomach tube! No worry about flavor, or sweeteners or any of that stuff, so I think it'll be easy for me to be very balanced nutritionally and really stick to whatever carb/protein/fat ratio I choose.

  • My beliefs are a bundle and I do it for all kinds of different reasons.

but first and foremost is having self sufficiency and sustainability on the top of my wishlist.

creating a life around the doctrines of our money society.

so a raw diet - based on promoting products, making more storebought food etc. has nothing on a say freegan or homegrown cooked vegan.

its all about going back to doing it yourself for me. back to nature.

but eating raw food is the most spiritual way of eating in the yogic sense of life for me.

it just makes me feel good. and what I support is treeplanting instead of money sucking and dead packaged food.
