A video that's shocking so I can't watch it

Hi, a friend has forwarded me a petition and I have signed it and forwarded it to a few friends. I didn't think I could watch the video (as I'm now at the stage where I try to save fruitflies that drop into my juice) but I thought there would probably be some like-minded people here who would like to voice their anger at this disgusting practice. I am unsure of how to transfer the email with the petition onto this website or maybe we could start our own petition?

I have a feeling that those who are involved with this kind of thing are so removed from reality and quite unable to see or feel from any other perception than their own, and only through education will we be able to change things.

This takes you to the Peta website and video:

Thanks all x

  • Actually, if you can bear looking at the website, they have a 'sign up' against the fur trade box at the bottom, please all sign, what I read made me cry.....

It's really so sad and terrible. I regularly donate to Peta and several other animal organizations (Humane Society US (as well as Canada & International), Farm Sanctuary, World Society for the Protection of Animals).

Yet I just felt compelled to make an extra donation just now for the horrific plight of these poor animals raised for fur. And when you think of how badly people are treated in some of these countries, I have no doubts that this bone chilling horror exists for animals in the chinese fur industry. Incredibly sad..... PLEASE DONATE...it only takes 3 minutes online and you can give as little or as much as you want. Every bit makes a difference. PETA's overhead/administrative costs are quite low, so 83% of you donation goes directly to helping animals.

thanks for posting this! we have to keep spreading it

  • That's horrible!!!! Although I don't say anything to meat eaters or fur/leather wearers about their choices, I never forget to encourgae people NOT to buy from any commericial corporations such as foster farms or mcdonalds/kfc. They treat these animals so badly it makes me sick!

I remember driving past a cow farm in Northern Califonia and of course it was NONORGANIC and NON GRASS FED cows. They were cooped up in what looked like boxes that literally surrounded their bodies, no moving space whatsoever. They looked like they were dying!

  • thanks all for your comments guys, and keep up the good work. I will watch that link when I feel less fragile Mikfizzle but thanks for that too. Sheik, it sounds like those animals might have been in veal crates, i'm surprised you could see it from the road, its so cruel. x

  • Absolutely heart breaking. :'( I struggle with despising people who continue to eat meat knowing what goes on, and then there are those who do not wish to know the truth, who wish to purposefully remain in the dark... I don't know which is worse. >:( So tragic, these lives tortured for something we do not need, only want, and at a high price to pay in the end, too.

Aspire, I totally can relate to your feelings! The more I learn, read and see on videos about meat consumption and animal cruelty, the more I struggle with despising humans and mankind. I sometimes joke with my husband by saying that I hope in my next life I end up on a different planet: A place where there is no killing, cruelty, violence, hunger, greed but only peace and kindness.......everyday humans are breaking my heart......

  • I agree, this is just so awful and it is not even in the name of our survival. Thanks Joyce H and Aspire, I hope others will sign up against this abominable trade. It has got to be stopped.

My brother tried to get me to watch Earthlings and I just couldn't do it. I only watched the 1 minute preview, and it's just so horrible and sad. I don't know how people can just watch animals getting tortured and killed.

  • LilEarthMuffinLilEarthMuffin Raw Newbie

AVL - i agree with you. however for me watching Earthlings was one of the best things that I ever did. Not all of it was animals getting tortured and killed - it was a main aspect however. The video is well put together and informative and something that I believe everyone should see at some point in their lives. Give it a try someday if your willing and let me know if you like it. :)

omg! i couldnt watch it either!!! breaks my heart!

  • AVLAVL Raw Newbie

Mikfizzle - I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch it. It just breaks my heart to see all those innocent creatures getting so mistreated. I had tears in my eyes after only 30 seconds. But if I decide to watch it again, I'll let you know what I thought of it.

As the late, great Gretchen Wyler used to say, "We cannot refuse to see with our eyes what they must endure with their bodies."

A friend of mine had a funny response to a similar "skinned alive" campaign because he was confused about what was being protested. 'So should we make absolutely sure the animals are dead before they're skinned??'

  • kellyannekellyanne Raw Newbie

that's a great quote suasoria! thanks for posting that!

Every time I see these kinds of things I am just completely over consumed with hate and anger for the human race makes me wanna kill those people with the same amount of brutality, we are the most pointless, useless and cruel creature that exists, all we do is bring harm upon everything we come in contact with, I truly believe the world would be a better place without us..

  • I understand what you are saying Suasoria, from that quote, I guess I should watch it as otherwise they died for nothing. however I was so traumatised by the Viva video I saw at new year (which not only showed factory farming and slaughterhouses but also kangaroos in the wild, including one baby joey being killed by a child - it was excruciating)

so I find myself being a coward and feeling like I cannot watch it (and Mikfizzle's lilearthmuffin video - though i think i should try to see that) as I will just have those images going through my head all the time. and I guess a part of me feels that it is some kind of voyeurism that I don't want to take part in. I still applaude Peta for recording it. The people who should be seeing it are the ones who ultimately wear fur.....but i don't suppose they give a damn.

Just FYI, Earthlings is also available as an audio book for people who really, truly cannot watch it. But I strongly believe that it's critical to have the _information_.

I have seen it several times and honestly I'm a little desensitized to it by now, but there are images in other films that have stuck with me one degree or another. What I'm saying is I know these things are hard to watch. I personally feel obliged to do so even if it's not pleasant for me in that moment. (And if government, agriculture, healthcare, etc. had their way, we wouldn't be able to watch it at all.)

  • You are absolutely right, suasoria, thanks for that. We probably wouldn't be able to watch it if governments had their way, which is why I support Viva, Peta and the Animal Defenders so wholeheartedly. I will try and get the audio book but i'm not sure if it is available in the UK, do you know a site where I can get it?

Also, when you said you were desensitized to it, it is why I can't despise these people completely, because they are so desensitised to what they do and they get paid for it. (you see it with soldiers in combat) If they were given the time to really think about what they do, then their perception may shift but it takes someone to point out that what they are doing is wrong ( know that sounds mad but I have met people who have worked in slaughterhouses and they are completely oblivious to how wrong it all is, yet they remember being terrified of their first kill).. If they are surrounded by fear and terror, they are blinded to the bliss and wonderment that could also be theirs. I noticed on a programme the other day that one charity has recruited former poachers of rhino and other wild animals in Africa, because the poachers know how to track these animals to monitor them, but I thought, how wonderful to have changed those men's lives to doing something good that benefits the planet. I'm sure some of these people may be beyond education, but it is always worth a try.

Good point about the workers. I would think you'd HAVE to go numb, frankly.

The only place I know for sure to get the audiobook is on earthlings.com via download.

  • Thanks Suasoria, very grateful. I will look for it today.

I think I made a mistake (oops!) about Earthlings, I thought Lilearthmuffin was a link to the Meet your Meat, and I realise that what you have all been talking about is, in fact, Earthlings - (sorry Mikfizzle, my bad!) - but like your website and your food looks fab!

  • LilEarthMuffinLilEarthMuffin Raw Newbie

Thats okay Debs hehe! Thanks for the complement.

As i said above Meet your Meat is a shockiing video but i believe that its something everyone should see whenever they are ready. One of my favorite quotes of all time is "if slaughter houses had glass walls we would all be vegetaraians." This is so true, its amazing hearing how many people have converted to veg/veganism after watching this video.

  • Thanks Mikfizzle, will let you know when I have seen it. Yes, I love that quote, and I think perhaps people should see it for real. I also like George Bernard Shaw's quote, Animals are my friends,... and I don't eat my friends'.

btw have you posted some of those recipes on the forum, they do look good.
