VIDEO> http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-488244452221805813&hl=en

Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with 'incurable' diabetes switching their diet and getting off insulin.

The film follows each participant's remarkable journey and captures the medical, physical, and emotional transformations brought on by this radical diet and lifestyle change. We witness moments of struggle, support, and hope as what is revealed, with startling clarity, is that diet can reverse disease and change lives.

Additional wisdom is provided by Morgan Spurlock, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Robbins, Rev. Michael Beckwith, and Doctors Fred Bisci, Joel Furman, and Gabriel Cousens.

  • I bought this movie and I loved it. I am totally inspired. I wish I knew if any of them reversed thyroid disfunction with it.

I felt very sorry for the man who gave up on it. The family who picked him up looked as sick as he was.

What was revealing about that was in the 'before' interview, he said that orange juice was really bad for his diabetes as he glugged down a whole big glass of it.

I wish they had better long-term follow-up but I could see that some of them were not going to make it in their 'real' lives. But for those that took the chance and ran with it, good for them. I hope to do the same.

This has to get out there in the mainstream.

When I first was diagnosed with diabetes, I think 4 years ago, I went to a support meeting. When the one other skinny woman and I said we wanted to treat it with diet and exercise instead of drugs, the counselor, who was diabetic and very large, just scoffed at us. She was telling the others that they shouldn't give up the things they loved, like chocolate, just take more drugs. This was a medical professional!

People are already saying that diabetes alone will bring down any health system that is established because of the costs involved. There must be a certain percentage, perhaps half, of diabetics who would be open to this.

I kept missing the showings of this at local health/raw foods cafe(only one near me, SO happy it opened) so I finally bought it. I just watched in Friday night and it was very well done. I like how even though it did focus in on the patients with diabetes there were so many other messages to take away from the movie.

I am also hypo-thryoid(have been since a kid) and was very sick up and down for about 10 years(5 being really bad). I went to # of Dr's and never got any good help, but I KNEW there was something else out there. Things were getting a little better, then in same year I was put on Cytomel(lowest dose but even that helped since my T3 levels were bottomed out - I KNEW there was something wrong before). It helped, enough mentally for me to start pulling things together myself to fight for my health. My naturopath now(going about 2 years) I LOVE!!! Best thing that has happened to me in a long time and she is very into treating symptoms and not bloodwork(because mine never matched up). On top of thryoid, I had been bad so long it looked like I really was suffering more from major adrenal fatigue. When she started treating that this last few months, MAJOR differences!! Overall I am on less pharmacy meds than I was for many years and slowly feeling better. I am not 100% raw and not vegan(but have cut way back and only eat local farm produce) but for me cutting out wheat really helped with GI. As I've gotten more natural diet andcan stick with it I DO see a difference so think that proper diet could help those with thryoid issues as well(not sure on thryoid cancer patients but with natural/auto immune I do think it can help).

OH, and if you have never been tested I suggest a Vit D test because that was a big issue for me and taking that also helped cut back on amount of thyroid meds I needed.

My brother is diabetic(diagnose in last year, likely been for many) and I WISH I could get him to eat better!!

  • Awesome movie!!!

    Everyone should watch it!

Good movie - but there was one thing that kept driving me nuts. It didn't seem like the people really understood why they were supposed to be eating the food they were given. There's a scene where they're all drooling over bread and crackers in a store, and they're reading out the ingredients, saying, "But there's hardly any sugar in here why can't we have a bit?" Another part where someone wants to compromise by having diet pop - again because there's no sugar. I kept wanting to shout at them. It's not all about the sugar, people!! I think it would be really hard for someone to keep doing something they dont' understand. It would be very interesting to have some followup on these people.

  • I totally agree about the attitude in the shop, but the process of understanding is an evolving one...the better you feel the more you start to question other things.

It was a huge jump and shock for the Raw for 30 group, it will take a while for their analytical brain to catch up.

It took me quite a time to get to a place where I felt comfortable being raw, even though it felt good from the start....If you start just by eating a little more salad, you may then add a green smoothie, then more raw, then organic food, before you know what is happening you will be cutting out dairy and soon will be high raw.

We all have to learn to give other people a break. It more often than not took us a long time, and I still find it hard to refuse friends who think they are being kind by trying to feed me icecream.

If you aren't raw it seems so strange to be raw.

Everyone needs to chill out and show by example...I had to learn not to preach ...it doesn't work...

Raw for 30 shows by example. I love that.

In addition, these people were selected for being "typical" in a sense - not because they really, really wanted to change their lives. I think their learning curve was even larger.

I'll underline the word "analytical" that squidgy used - there's not much that's analytical about food for SAD eaters. I figure so many of those desires are rooted in habits or emotion, not decisions about what might be good or bad. Ooh, lookee the pretty boxes of cookies, candy, sodas, I want I want I want.

Freepam, one of the participants, Kirt Tyson, not only stayed raw but he decided to go to naturopathic medical school and continues to speak and write about diabetes and raw foods. Look him up on MySpace sometime.
