Vacuum-Sealed Storage Containers

Has anyone here used these, referring to actual containers and not just the bags you vacuum air out of and seal? I was thinking about investing in them to keep my produce fresh longer.

Yes, I use the vacuum seal containers for produce. You can not put brocc., cabbage or other brassicas in them. For when you open them up ohhhhhhhhh the smell. Celery of course is to long. Zucc.’s dont do well either, and spinach is so,so. but all the other foods will last a long time. I also use the meat marinade container for marinated veggies. Cuts out a lot of time.

I use my Food Saver to vacuum seal mason freezing and canning jars. The only containers I have seen specifically marketed for the Food Saver are made of plastic (yuck!!!). If you go to Forums – Food Preparation – there is a Food Saver thread with additional comments. KristensRaw has a link to her website with some details.

BEANY – What brand product are you using?

EMTPDMOM – Thanks. I will check out that thread. Just came back from there and see you have one. In addition to using it for fresh veggies (I am not a fan of plastic so I would use Mason jars), can you tell a real difference with your dry goods? I always buy organic and it doesn’t take long for the bugs to hatch. Trying to avoid that happening before they do so in my stomach. LOL.

I use the jars for all my dry ingredients, and to store leftovers. I haven’t had a problem with hatchings. Since I am a family of one (two if you count my puppy) I try to buy what I can use in two weeks or so. But I have kept grains, nuts, seeds, dried fruit and such for a couple of months without any problem.

I’ve not vacuum-sealed any fresh veggies. I use the green bags and am quite pleased with them.

I use the green bags for those things that I cant put in the “Food Saver” containers. I also use quart and 1 1/2 quart canning jars for dried fruit and grains etc.Using the Food Saver for them. I live about an hour and half from our Health Store sp I need my produce to stay fresh for at least 2-3 weeks. Some of my jars I freeze to kill eggs.(just in case) Yes I hate using plastic, too, but aren’t the green bags plastic? Oh, this modern life.
