Umm..? about bowel movements..=)

KoaselinoKoaselino Raw Newbie

Hello-

I'm converting to raw right now. I guess I'd say I'm high raw at this point, but I'm still having cooked dinners. It's cold during the winter and I really love hot soups and warm food in the evenings.

I'm in my second week of vegan/raw (I've been a vegetarian for 2 years) and I've been having loose stools. I've read a few things about detoxing which I do believe I'm doing a bit, but I'm wondering what I'm missing...or is loose stool common? I have a pretty well rounded diet with variation. A normal day for me right now is..

Breakfast:

Fresh juice and/or fruit OR a green smoothie OR Steel cut oats w/ pecans and raisins or fruit with a small amount of Agave

Snack :

Fruit or some nuts

Lunch:

Salad or a green wrap with avocado, sprouts w/ lacto fermented dressing etc..

Snack:

More nuts or maybe a vegan dessert I blended..walnuts, dates etc.

Dinner:

Vegan soup that contains beans, greens etc. or homemade veggie burger with root fries, salad etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Am I missing anything in my diet that might cause loose stools? Eating too much of something? I don't eat that many dried fruits...maybe I have raisins a couple days a week in my oatmeal.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

  • I've been 100% raw for 7 months and my bowel movements are consistently loose(ish). Are you having full-blown diarrhea or are you just experiencing a state of semi-solidness? And are you going more than once a day? Keep in mind that everything you're consuming is very high in fiber (yay!) and is just whooshing through instead of hanging out in your bowel, collecting dust :)

Cacao is pure laxative to me as is dried fruit on an empty stomach so if you're having full-blown diarrhea, you might have a single trigger. I personally think your diet looks good... a little heavy on the nuts maybe but it's all a personal choice!

my bowel movements have been loose since i went raw in january!! i love not being constipated though so i'd prefer to have loose stool. i usually go once in the morning and then 3 times after that, all spread out depending on when i eat. usually when i eat more fat or cooked foods, my stool becomes hard again, but it seems like that in your diet already. it's interesting because your meals would totally constipate me! i guess that's more proof that every body is unique.

    lol i'm jealous too

  • your stool should be loose (not diarrhoea). remember the food doesn't stay very long in your bowels. a bit of a private question, has the smell of your stool changed? if you haven't noticed then you should pay atttention. in addition the colour is often lighter. well at least that's how i have experienced it in my short raw/semi-raw periods.

i'm looking foward to going full raw or at least 80%

I would increase your fresh fruit, decrease your nuts (or eliminate them for a bit).

Mine are also loose, sometimes they are soft (like soft served ice cream...sorry for the details!), but other times it's almost like diarrhea. I've noticed that if I eat more fat, like nuts and avocado or bread, my stools get harder.

When I go for colonics the therapist can't believe how unformed my stools are.

I'm like you joannabanana, I would much rather have loose stools than be constipated (and I also go about 4 times a day!).

I agree with all of you. I would much rather have loose stools than constipation and I'm glad to hear that what I'm having is normal. Most of my life my stools were very irregular and I would go a couple days without going. Now I go in the morning and usually once or twice in the afternoon.

    Bushcrazyraw-they are semi-solid. I rarely have diarrhea.

chicabotanica-I have noticed a difference in smell. It doesn't stink as bad! ha! There was definetly an odor change when I stopped having dairy and meat. It smells...how can I put it...well not as toxic.

    Thanks everyone that posted!

    XO
