Tostada Chip Tray for Dehydrator?

Hello!

Does anyone know where we can get a ‘mold’ or ‘cookie-cutter-type-thing’ to make nice “perfect” dehydrated chips? I heard of a restaurant that would be selling them… but I just want to know if their are other options out there.

I use an open round cookie cutter when i make my corn chips. it takes a little extra work since you have to do one at a time but I like them round so it is worth it to me. I don’t know of a large mold or anything that has a bunch of round holes (if that is what you mean) or a dehydrator tray that comes like that. Sur la Table sells an assortment of cookie cutters online – they have a round set and a triangular one. I use one that was actually for biscuit making and it works out great – I think I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. I have seen a lot on Ebay too.

How about a molding tray that is normally used for baking chocolates or for cupcakes? I was thinking of trying this to see if the chips would dehydrate half way and than I could take them out and put them on the dehydrator tray for the rest of the time. Not sure if it will work since the mold has to holes for air flow.

If you ever find one that has many holes, let me know – I would be interested in one too!

I’m not sure what you are trying to end up with but… When I am making Bread, Chips, tortillas, etc. I make a full tray and right before they are done dehydrating while they are still a little soft I cut them with scissors. This makes them look great and I can pick any shape or size I want. bonus: I can eat whatever edges are left over as a reward for cutting them.

Thanks for the advice on using the scissors… but I’m not home to cut them in the middle of dehydration. Of course, I haven’t tried making corn-flax-etc chips. The idea of having some “special” tray for chips sounds good and easy to me. :o) Who knows.

I forgot to say in my post that i use my round cookie cutter at the beginning when I put my batter on the tray so I don’t do any cutting in the middle of dehydrating. So my shapes are already formed and ready. I don’t like to have to cut in the middle of dehydrating which is why I do it that way.
