taking a cooler to work/school?

Hi I'm new here. I am kind of thinking of ways to make a high raw diet easier for me. It seems kind of hard since the society isn't too raw vegan friendly, or even vegan friendly.

Anyways, that's besides the point. Do any of you take with you a cooler to work to keep your raw meals if there are no refrigerators and you need some things to keep cool (ie to prevent spoilage)?

Also, would any of you know any websites to find EASY and SIMPLE BASIC recipes for a busy person like me who goes to school and work and does other stuff? Preferrably high in protein too because I do weight lifting and kung fu.

Sigh, damn industrial society is bad for health. Anyways.. I'm still living with my father and trying to begin a life on my own, though to begin has been a hassle because of my diet, health issues and other 'alternative and unconventional thinking processes'.

Regards

    Fruit is good!!!!

Bananas, mangoes, grapes are 3 that will give you lots of calories and the most bang for your buck in my opinion.

You need to make sure you eat enough calories, and you don't want to get them all from nuts and seeds and avocados, since these are high in fat.

The problem with some of the raw recipes is that they are high in fat, and are made to look like cooked food recipes.

To me it doesn't make sense to mimic food that kills people. But to each their own.

  • The easiest raw foods I've found don't involved ANY prep work at all. I find it annoying to prepare all the raw meals that involve dehydrated and mucking about in the kitchen.

I just cut up about 11 tomatoes and have at it, or fill my sink with lettuce and start crunching away. for work I make about a gallon of green smoothie (spinach, kale, whatever was at the market and looked nice and green...or purple...whatever) and drink that all day. There's nothing easier, especially since I'm a teacher and it helps that I can drink while my students work, or I can take a sip before running about again.

seriously, don't spend your time on making fancy stuff, raw can be as simple as just eating a banana...or 11...raw canadian is right, there's not much sense in replicating SAD food and just making it out of dates instead of other stuff...just eat the dates whole and be done with it.

  • ok. well i just hope fruits aren't all expensive and stuff.

    also.. organic.

organic foods are way more expensive but non-organic has way more pesticides.

    hmzzz....

Still though I'd have to bring a cooler to keep all this stuff cool. I definately want to invest in getting a smoothie maker to make the ELITE green smoothies you all talk about.

i personally like the more interesting raw foods. While some of it i guess "mimics" SAD food, it's often a healthy version of it. It's kind of like how if you're making vegan, non-raw muffins, you replace the sugars with bananas, replace the fats with apple sauce, replace the eggs with flax seed, replace the flours with whole grain flours. yes, it's replicating in the taste, but you can't really say that it's just as unhealthy as the SAD food. In fact, it's quite healthy.

I do the same with my raw food. Although I personally don't try to "mimic" anything, I just make creative, healthy and delicious dishes.

There are tons of simple recipes here, check under the "easy" tag.

If you want protein, think sprouts - super cheap too, and nuts - not quite as cheap, and seeds - cheaper than nuts!

for cheap, think seasonal when it comes to produce

and for stuff that keeps super well when travelling, get to know your dehydrator. and of course nuts and seeds travel well too.

i usually just throw stuff in my backpack. it's always bananas, grapes, and apples because i don't care if they are cold or not. they are also very filling and i'm like you, too (weight lift a lot and i'm constantly on the move).
