If you and your family had to survive on only what you have stored or grown at your home, what would you:
1. purchase ahead of time (batteries, wood, manual blenders, etc.)
2. store-up on ahead of time (specific seeds, beans, etc.)
Are there any good books you can recommend on this topic?
I’ve done a lot of planning in this area. Someone suggested I write a book about it – maybe I will…here’s a start:
Start by learning to sprout and learning how to use the sprouts. Whatever you can sprout & will use, that’s what to start with for storage. Most sproutable seeds/beans last a long time in storage, as does whole flaxseed. For potential loss of power, get familiar with simple recipes that can be made without electricity – i.e. chopping & stirring things together. Gardening is another good skill/habit to develop. You can store garden seeds for a couple of years or more.
