Supplements: New Chapter or Viridian

I want to get some multivitamins and omega 3 (dha) for my family and me. For my son, 10 years old, my husband and for myself, nursing a 6 month old. I read that new chapter and viridian have good, pure products. I know that in the end it is better to get all you need from the food we eat, but I feel that we need something extra now.

Do you know anything about it?

  • i know new chapter uses fermented soy which some people want to avoid. right now i take a liquid multi called natural vitality organic life vitamins by peter gillham. i like it pretty well. just ask for whole food/raw food based vitamins when you go to the health food stores. there are some new ones. real foods ... i just can't think who makes it right now and one other one called the vitamin code. and mega foods is a good company. i don't know lots about them individually but thats a start. good luck!

  • There are some nifty multiitamins by Garden of Life that I have been taking, rather dramatically called "The Vitamin Code". They make formulas for women, men, seniors, etc, and according to their website, these vitamins are processed from whole foods and are "raw". I am not exactly sure what that means, but I leave you to make your own deduction...

They seem to work well for me. I have had more energy lately since taking them, come to think of it. Rather pricey though. There is a coupon on the website.

Just FYI, New Chapter supplements are usually vegetarian, but not vegan. I'm pretty sure that Gilham's liquid vitamins are not vegetarian, though I know some of their supplements are vegan, so I could be wrong. I've taken some Vitamin Code and I think they're pretty good, and you can find decent prices if you shop around. I agree that Mega Food is a good company.

I do take NuTru's DHA supplements; they make a liquid that is pretty economical. Tastes kind of fishy, though.

  • the peter gillhams natural vitality is vegetarian! that is why i take it and recommended it.

" Vegetarian Formula: Cruelty free. Allergen Free. Contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, wheat, sugar, starch, soy or artificial color or flavor. " (off of my bottle and their website)

and i have heard mixed views on the vitamin code. it seems great but apparently they use a yeast in their process and i don't know exactly what happens to it because i think they say the product is safe for yeast sensitive people, but if their product is also totally raw how and when are they ridding it of the yeast. this is all secondary info from a coworker of mine who attended a dinner meeting with a vitamin code rep. plus he is kinda intense so i don't tend to usually trust his advice on everything. i did get a free bottle of it from a rep. and felt fine taking it.

i just prefer something without yeast or soy. i personally noticed the most difference with the liquid vitamin.

  • Thanks for all your suggestions. It seems that the products you mention are much cheaper in the states than in Holland. I now found new chapter in England on ebay, I think I'll go for that: every man, perfect prenatal and everykid.. :everybody happy...

Anybody knows viridian, that also is said to be an all natural mark?
