Sunny Raw Kitchen website (wonderful!)

JoyceHJoyceH Raw Newbie

I’m sure many of you know about Carmella who has the Sunny Raw Kitchen website. She has a collection of all these amazing recipes. A couple weeks ago I made her triple berry cake which was simply divine. This past weekend I made the Vegan Bay crab cakes’ with the raw dill tartar sauce. OMG were these tasty!!! I don’t feel comfortable posting these recipes as they are not my own but here’s her website.

Btw – for the crab cakes I used cashews in lieu of the macadamia nuts as Carmella stated in her notes and they were fantastic. Wow!!

One more note – these even passed the picky husband test! :-)

  • Yes… yes…her website is awesome! We love the crab cakes! We have not made them with the dill tartar sauce yet. I have been trying to master a raw red pepper sauce with our crab cakes. Haven’t master the exact red pepper taste I am looking for, but crab cakes are yummy in our tummies!:)

Did you know carmella was a member of GR?

I also like checking in on Goddess Heathy’s website from time to time.

I love her site! I’ve been there so many times and am always pleasantly surprised. Now I’m inspired to make the triple berry cake!

troublesjustabubble – The tripple berry cake is so good!! I had this cacao butter for ages and wasn’t sure what to do with it and finally this recipe came along! I used half blackberries and half raspberries. I think I had more fun swirling the two colors together. If my husband finally downloads some photos I’ll try and remember to post one :-)

    ” the picky husband test!”

i love carmella’s site! She has a recipe book out too, i bet it’s yummy.

yes, I want to eventually get her raw e-book too! Right now I have a big drawer full of disorganized print-outs of raw recipes and ebooks from all kinds of sources. I think I better get somewhat organized and buy some binders before printing out another e-book

You should see me shuffling through my mess to find print outs of recipes :-)

I don’t want to use Nutritional Yeast and i am sure i cannot find psyillium seed at my health food store… do you think i can leave these 2 thins out??? I think i’ll try this with 1/2 pine nuts and 1/2 macs. Macs are really expensive by me.

Oh, sorry, i was referring to the crab cakes in my above post.

  • troublesjustabubbletroublesjustabubble Raw Newbie

JoyceH-you’re killing me! I want to leave work right now to make it!

  • JoyceHJoyceH Raw Newbie

I think Pine nuts would be fine with the Macs. I liked using cashews. I found the psyillum in the bulk spice section of the co-op. Ask around in your store. I find that the same item is sometimes kept in different places depending on the store/co-op. You could grind up pine nuts in lieu of the Nut.yeast but it might taste a bit differet. I think the recipe would still be good though….I discovered I really like dried porcini mushrooms. Don’t leave these out as they make the texture really good.

troublesjustabubble – if you leave now, you can have it firmed up in time for a late dinner (I put mine in the freezer to get it to harden quicker).

don’t tempt me! haha. I’ll get it started as soon as I get home though! Well, I gotta make sure I’ve got everything but it’s definitely high on my priorities.

  • Carrie6292 -

We couldn’t find psyillium seed either. We have made the crab cakes several times and just left them out. I think the pine nuts would be fine. Just grind up pine nuts to just replace the measurement of nutritional yeast. For the cheesy flavor. Especially, if you are trying to avoid MSG.

simplyraw—question. Nutritional yeast has MSG in it???

JoyceH—another querstion.. concerning the tartar sauce. I have tried to find fresh horseradish for other things but no go. Have you used something else in its place???

  • Beany -

You can read more about nutritional yeast and MSG here….

beany – I didn’t use horseradish or capers in the tartar sauce so it was more of a creamy dill sauce. I really modified the tartar sauce recipe (while sticking closely to the crab cake recipe). I used 3/4 C of soaked cashews, more lemon….hmmmm..I wrote it down at home. I also used extra dill as I just love the stuff.
