stress-weight connection?

beanbean Raw Newbie

I've been mostly raw for a long time- I don't know percent-wise, but the only things I eat that aren't raw are things like nutritional yeast, a bit (tsp) of miso, spices, coffee, tea, and occasionally some non raw mustard (or tabasco sauce, which I have a bit of a weakness for). These things haven't really held me back too badly in the past, though I do consume less than I used to. I eat mostly apples, bananas, carrots, tomatoes, and other vegetables, as well as fruits like strawberries, pineapple, and melon. I think my diet is fairly good, in that regard- certainly not high-fat, or high calorie. I often have to force myself to eat more than I'm comfortable eating to get enough calories in, but if I don't, I tend to feel kind of dizzy/tingly. I would like to lose a bit of weight, nonetheless- I've always been a bit small, due to my height- I'm 5'1, and it's really easy for me to put on weight. Much more difficult to take it off, and for some reason, no matter how much I exercise, lately I haven't been losing any at all. I've always gone through little plateaus, but they've always been for some kind of reason that eventually went away. Right now, I have no idea. I'm actually GAINING weight eating the exact same as I have before, exercising the same if not more than before, and drinking a lot of water. I have absolutely no idea why this is, but the only thing that seems different is the amount of stress I'm under. LOADS. I'm a university student, and I have exams. This year has been difficult for me, and it's winding down to a horribly stressful end that includes depression, sleeplessness, fatigue, loss of energy, loss of motivation, etc. STRESS. I have been forcing my way through this, and the end is very, very near... I'm trying very hard not to let this issue add on to my already ridiculous stress load, but it's kind of getting to me. Could this be the reason I'm having trouble losing/managing my weight?

(I'm really not doing anything like binging at night, or sneaking in non-raw foods, either. Just doing exactly the same thing, eating very healthy, in my opinion. It's absolutely confusing me, and starting to really freak me out.)

Please, any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Yes, stress can totally relate to weight gain...it really does for me but took a long to figure that out(or have a Dr that would believe or address it - thank goodness for my current naturopath). Stress drains the adrenal glands, and constant stress really puts a burden on them and for me that equals a lot more central weight gain(which can spread after awhile but always hits belly first). Look into adrenal fatigue or ask your Dr, if not my other suggestion is to have your thryoid checked, and make sure you have enough Vit D (trust me, does make a big difference).

    Best of luck on exams!

PS - all the other symptoms I had as well and when not thryoid it was always adrenal or Vit related!!

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, I've considered the thyroid thing- I checked a bunch of those symptom lists, and I fit EVERY SINGLE ONE. I'm really hoping, if it is that, it can be corrected- but even better would be the stress thing! I finished my exams today, and they went ok, I think! Thanks for the well-wishings. I'm finally going to just chill for a few days, rest my head a bit, and see if that helps.
