Storage of RAW CRACKERS and SOAKED NUTS

I’m new to dehydrating and still kind of new to trying to go raw. So, please parden my many questions…

How long with raw crackers, cookies last? Do you store them in the fridge or is plastic baggy or container good enough?

How long will soaked nuts stay fresh in the fridge?

Thanks, ~Sara :)

Well, I had some flax crackers that I lost in the back of a cabinet for atleast 3 months. They looked fine but I tossed them. :) They were in a Tupperware container and there were no bugs, no signs of mold. I just didn’t feel like eating them.

With my 4 kids, cookies don’t stay around long enough for me to find out. If there is a high moisture content I will usually refridgerate them but if it is crackers, they go in the cupboard.

  • Thanks, Priceless :)

Helps to know crackers/cookies could last longer than 3 days.

My son is going on an encampment, and he would like to take some raw snacks along. I didn’t know if I could make them ahead of time. Really helps to know that I can :)

    Thanks again!

Never pardon your self! There are never too many questions. Raw crackers, like Priceless One said, last quite a good while with refridgeration. Now for the soaked nuts, they defenitely nedd to go in the fridge and I would keep them in there no longer than you would nut mylks (3 days) I hope that helped you out.

    Love, Vaughn

PS Like I tell everyone, dont get freaked out.. I love everyone :)

  • Hello Humanimal,

Thanks for your kind & encouraging words, and of course your thoughts on keeping soaked nuts fresh.

Keeping them as long as nut mylks makes sense.

    Yes, you’ve helped.

    Thanks :)

  • Hey, Vaughn. Nice to see you back, haven’t seen you around for a while!

Yeah I have been pretty busy lately and plus I had spring break which was a nice relaxing time :)

  • Try vaccum sealing works for me? I use a foodsaver container and the plastic.

    I worry about the plastic waste which i don’t use often….but I always wonder…

Hey! I have another idea for the soaked nuts. Soak them and them dehydrate in the dehydrater and I think they will keep very long. But always put nuts in the fridge to keep them nice a fresh and tasty.

Here’s what I’ve read in various places: NUTS: Soak nuts, dehydrate at a low temp (as humanimal wrote) and then keep in the freezer in freezer bags…keeps up to 1 year. I do this immediately after buying nuts and seeds…they are super crunchy and live—ready for “living” food dishes or on top of salads. SUPER CRUNCHY! :) IF you don’t dehydrate, they will last only up to 1 week in the refrigerator. CRACKERS, FRUITS/VEGETABLES: After dehydrating, put them in mason jars with a cotton ball, will keep 3 months in a cupboard, 6 months in a refrigerator.

  • Ohh wow I'm so glad you posted this. Even though I've been raw for awhile I worry about if food has gone bad. Sometimes I don't get to eat all the dishes that I make but one thing that I make a lot of is crackers and snack foods that keep. I kept my last batch of flax dragon crackers for three months and was still eat'm and worried they were bad even though they looked fine. So I'm sooooooooooooo glad they last that long!

Until very recently only a very small select group of people ate this way so there is always going to be questions. It's all good.
