seizures

Hello,

Has anyone had any success with reducing seizures since starting a raw food diet? My doctor did an mri and found a scar on my right temporal lobe. Does not know for certain what caused the scar. Any ideas would be helpful!! I am a little worried because I don’t ever recall hitting my head as a child. I have been having experiences with dejavu type auras where I feel spacey and doctor thinks could be seizures. I didn’t know if this diet could help or make symptoms worse?

  • Disclaimer: I am in no way experienced with seizures. However I do know that a healthy body which gets a healthy balanced diet will be a definite help to any kind of illness or health concern. You can’t make things worse by getting in better health. No matter what the condition is, you will either help it or in the worst case it will do nothing for it when you eat a healthy raw diet. For more specific help you need to contact a raw health advisor. Dr. Doug Graham does this by telephone (he does charge for it), or if you just ask a general question he usually answers on the web site: www.vegsource.com/talk/raw (it’s free to post messages and Doug himself usually replies to them).

  • Petit mal seizures (absent seizures) are associated with scar tissue on the right temporal lobe. They are not caused from an injury, and are mostly genetic. For example, my grandmother, mother and myself all had scar tissue on the right temporal lobes. My grandmother did not experience seizures but my mother and I did. Fortunately the seizures mostly occur in childhood and are gone by puberty. And when I say saizures, I don’t mean grand mal but mainly just day dreaming. You actually lose consciousness for a few seconds but nothing noticable. As far as I know, seizures are not affected by our nutritional status. However, I do remember that when I had a fever as a child, the seizures would be more frequent. If you begin detoxing and get a fever this may bring one on but then again we are not talking about grand mal seizures. Seek your doctors advice before you begin though.

I just wanted to clarify something that Stacie said…seizures CAN be caused by nutrition. Prior to epilepsy and other seizure medications, doctors would patients on what is called a ketogenic diet (specific % fat, protein, and carbs) with GREAT success. This treatment option has been almost lost thanks to the pharmaceutical companies. I have sent a number of patients to get referrals to a specialist to set up ketogenic diets. It is scary to think of putting little tiny kiddos (birth to 3yrs) on such heavy meds, so many families are happy to have an alternative.

  • Most illnesses genetic or not are caused or controlled by some form of diet and lifestyle. Humans are not pre-programmed to be sick or to get all the common illnesses that seem to pop up out of nowhere. Even the well documented real birth genetic defects are linked to bad diets and lifestyles for generations and generations by ancestors of the child who was born with them. Of course there are other factors such as environmental pollution, but that too is not caused by nature but by man.

  • Sorry….I should have clarified. What I meant was foods do not trigger seizures, alcohol intoxication yes, but not food. Especially the kind that dnacol is talking about.
