Ringworm/Athletes Feet

My husband and I have been considering raw for over a year now. We've played with it from time to time. We're now REALLY REALLY considering it because of health problems.

He has athletes feet and its made one toenail black. Doctor prescribed him an oral medication and he finished out the course but still has a dark nail. The other problem is that it has spread (in the form of ringworm) to me, our 2 year old, and our 6 month old. It goes away easily with the creams... but a few weeks later it'll pop up somewhere else. I've been cleaning, bleaching, washing bed sheets, lysol spraying like crazy.

Wouldn't it make sense that if our skin and immune systems were VERY healthy that it'd kill the fungus? What foods and treatments do you recommend for fungus like this?? I am desperate. Please help!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi beckydecky,

You are very right - ringworm is not a worm, it's a fungus, and it tends to show up in people/animals with a compromised immune system. Athlete's foot is, I believe - but am working from memory here - a yeast family overgrowth. I would strongly recommend working with a naturopath or environmental MD that is familiar with treating these things naturally. I would have yourselves tested for candida overgrowth (as well as other intestinal yuckies), cut out all sugar and processed foods, and start reading up on diet options. I chose raw veganism after years of working with doctors and naturopaths for my lupus. It took me years to stabalize my digestive tract to the point where I could accept whole, raw foods without - er - an explosive reaction. I had severe digestive issues and needed to start with soft foods I was not allergic to before I could move to raw. And while I was eating cooked I was far from vegan. Now that I've made the switch, I feel better than I have in years, but it took some time getting here. Be patient and do your research. I am an extreme case and I don't regret the path I took to get here. I still take some non-vegan supplements under doctor recommendation (and after a lot of research and trial and error - if I feel better with it, I'm still taking it).

Garlic, cinnamon, and wild oregano oil are all very good for fungus and bacteria overgrowth. Eliminating sugars and processed foods is a must. I would cut out grains and start getting carbohydrates from fruit sources. Books like "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" have information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet - a diet that emphasizes cutting out specific carbohydrates in order to cut off the candida food source. I had moderate success with the diet, but did take Nystatin for a time and now include a lot of garlic, cinnamon, and raw oregano through supplements and diet. I eat fruit, dates, and some other sugars (not cane or processed though), and still feel great.

I've used sulphur homepathic remedy on dogs with success for ringworm - but each person/animal has a specific homeopathic remedy that suits them best. I wouldn't recommend running to the store and buying some without consulting someone who is well versed in homeopathy (but it might be worth bringing up and researching).

  • When eliminating sugars and processed foods... does fruit count? My husband is eager to eliminate sugar and processed foods but wonders if he can still have fruit... apples, bananas, oranges, etc.

I'm afraid my answer won't be too helpful. It depends on which theory you subscribe to. When following the SCD, very few fruits are allowed. Others argue fruit should be avoided all together because they still feed candida.

I tried cutting out all fruits, grains, etc. for many months and didn't see much of an improvement. I went to an environtmental dr and took Nystatin under the direction of my doctor (it's a drug that is toxic to candida, is not intestinally permeable so it stays in the GI tract - it's not useful for systemic problems that span outside the GI tract and some doctors will then use Diflucan - which is really rough on the liver). I then took Colon Guard by pharmax, upped the garlic intake, and started taking wild oregano drops. Between the two treatments, I've done well while eating fruits. Working with a professional who knew about Candida was the key to success for me.

I’ve suffered from planter fasciitis and a broken foot. My feet were in constant pain until I bought this shoes. When I get home from work I don’t want to put on my slippers I just want to keep on my kudus. I’ve been recommending them to all my friends. I'm so thankful for the relief from plantar fasciitis when I'm wearing them. I’ve owned my orthofeet for over two months now.
