Rawbie in da house!

Hello! I’m new to raw foods and I’m slowly trying to incorporate more and more raw foods into my diet, eliminate my cravings and kick cooked food to the curb.

How did I get here? Well, in August 2006, I got up one day and realized I just didn’t feel vibrant, clean or healthy. I was overweight and tired, my digestion was poor, I had no motivation and had the beginnings of depression. I just did not feel well or at all like myself. In an attempt to get my body under control, I went vegetarian, ovo-lacto specifically. This made me feel a bit better, but I just wasn’t digging the fake meats and cheeses. Add to that the fact that my hubby kept bringing junk food in the house and I ended up crashing and burning after a few months.

Fast forward to January 2008. I find I’m feeling the exact same way I felt in 2006 and again, I try to find a natural way to rectify what I felt was some sort of imbalance in my body. A chatroom friend suggested I read Skinny Bitch because it changed her life and she thought it would change mine too. She was so right! When I closed that book, I immediately became a vegan. When I did, I started to feel so much more energetic and, I know it sounds weird, but I started to feel my soul more, the energy or life force within started to strengthen and I liked that feeling, so I kept at it. Oh and I lost 15lbs, so I knew I was healthier, but I still felt the need for more. I knew I was on the right path, but I just wasn’t all the way there yet.

Amped by all the positive results and the need to learn more about my new lifestyle, I scoured the web and read anything I could (yeah, I’m a geeky read-aholic) and I came across stuff about the raw food movement and how you can heal your body by eating as God intended us to eat. It was all so simple and the truth of it spoke to me. Something just clicked and I knew it was the next step for me. I would go raw.

It hasn’t been easy, by any stretch of the imagination. I realize my body is like a junkie, totally addicted to the smell, flavor and heaviness of cooked food. I’ve had days where I ate 100% raw, but more days where I started out fine and by the afternoon, crashed and burned horribly, but I’ve never been one to give up, so I soldier on.

I hope to meet more like-minded people here and learn to make more delectable raw foods so that the pull to cooked food becomes less and less. Thanks for reading!!

  • I think your name says it all, follow your intuition and be a good example for your husband. Do what’s right for your body. There are some enlightened people on these blog rolls, but I have to say when it comes to eating raw; if you are ready “just do it”. It’s so much easier when you make it fun. Me my daughter and my wife are all 100% raw and we never have any problems. There are occasional times when my daughter asks me to make cheezits or one of her old favorite foods, but for the most part that just it. You can mimic any SAD food out there, not to say you should but you can. Follow your intuition sister and read read read. Become a master at making your own salad dressings. Go to IKEA and get some large wooden bowls and some chop sticks, and just make the best salads you can make. This will keep you out the kitchen all day, trust me. I don’t juice feast for the whole day but while I am at work I just drink my green drinks and smoothies and save my salads for dinner. I know I am going on and on, not to mention I am at work LOL. OOPS here comes someone now be good to yourself and do whats right you will love yourself so much more and open up a whole new life for yourself. I would recommend you read THE POWER OF NOW, and GREEN FOR LIFE. I know you can do it PEACE AND BLESSINGS >

  • Welcome to “the boat” as in we are all in the same boat :) You’ve got tons of support on this website. The longest I have done 100% raw was about 2,5 weeks. Otherwise I guess I average out at about 80%... For me it will be a long transition I expect and I feel really comfortable with that right now. I feel good at my raw level at the moment… but I think that eventually I will perfect enough recipes that raw will be all I want to eat :) Good luck on your raw journey!

Welcome aboard. Hopefully you’ll feel as encouraged and supported by this website as I have. It’s addictive!! Read as much on this as you can – it’s empowering. Taking your health into your own hands is a wonderful experience. Have fun!!

  • Sounds like you’re on the right track. As a fellow “geeky read-aholic,” I don’t think you can have too much information. I like both of ardesmond2’s book recommendations, as well. I maintain High Raw, not 100% (though I am 100% much ofthe time), and I’m content with that. I fell way lower during a family crisis, but just thought about the benefits High Raw gave me & knew I had to get back to it. Now it seems easier than ever, but it was definitely a process for me.

Keep reaching out for support. There are so many people who will happily help. Good luck!

It has taken me a year of reading raw blog and recipe sites – and I’m finally 100% raw! The motivation and momentum keeps building. Also, try new recipes, and have fun. Once you love some rawcipes, you’ll crave them instead of the cooked food!
