I purchased my first jar of raw honey. Is it supposed to smell like someone died in there? The taste is ok.

What brand did you purchase?? are you sure the label clearly states Raw – unfiltered, unprocessed, unheated, unstrained honey?? My honey doesn’t really have a distinct oder I guess, but It usually comes with the beeswax as the top layer when you open the jar.

If the honey was harvested too soon, before it was fully cured (all the excess water evaporated) then the honey can spoil. It should not have a bad odor~ I would not eat it!

Buckwheat honey has a natural mossy earth type smell that may be strange to some.
