I buy my Frontier brand non-alcoholic vanilla extract at the local co-op. You can get it at any health food store. Whole Foods sells it. I use the entire vanilla bean (seeds and skins) when I use whole vanilla beans.

  • With the spent vanilla pod, you can dice it up loosely and soak it in fresh water with a tiny pinch of sea salt for several days. I will on occasion place a date in the soak water as well, and use this water as a thinning liquid for ice-creams, puddings or pies.
