  • I would say just stick to organic & fresh & stay away from things like garlic, onion, hot peppers, etc. Cruciferous veggies may make mommy & baby gassy, you just have to experiment. It’s really important to stay hydrated so lots of fresh fruit & veggies & water if you need it. Smoothies are simple, especially if you’re strapped for time!

  • I am curious to know as well as I will be having a baby in the next three months. I always ate foods like oatmeal and milk and heavy fats to keep my milk coming in strong….so I am curious to know what I can do this time around to keep production up.

I have heard that it is important to get omega-3 during this time….so probably lots of flax, huh?

  • newbienewbie Raw Newbie

I would also suggest lots of greens for the calcium. You don’t want it to come from what’s stored in your bones.

  • natalia rose talks about how she boosted her milk production by eating two pounds of green a day—one pound steamed and the other via juice or green smoothies. greens are all you need for calcium. also zinc is really important—i think she suggests pecans, which i don’t know if they are really raw. i would google raw pregancy or just buy a good book on it…

  • FENUGREEK SPROUTS help in milk formation in nursing mothers. There’s a lot of info available about this on the net.

  • I’m transitioning to raw and I’m nursing my 5 month old and plan to until he decides to wean. Avocados are fantastically healthy for a nursing mama. They’re probably the most important food you can eat. I’m off dairy entirely except that I do sometimes make kefir when the urge strikes me (you can use raw milk for this if you have a source. Fenugreek, as mentioned above, is awesome for increasing milk supply. The most important thing is just staying as hydrated and well rested as possible. Ha! Must laugh at myself because I have a toddler along with the baby so I can’t say I’m practicing what I preach in regards to sleep.

  • I am nursing a 9-month old and I just make sure to get a good balance in my vegan raw diet. This is usually 1/2 nuts/seeds and 1/2 fruits and veggies. Eating a lot of raw veggies means you are getting a lot of water usually. I just made the Chili recipe from Carol Alt’s second book today and it was delicious. I love Julianos Spinach Soup, and I love Borscht Soup. I do a smoothie for breakfast every day with Hemp Protein Powder.
