Need some advice

hi! I’m a yogaholic who lives in new york city. i’m also a foodholic and a sugar holic. last year i kicked the sugar habit and went vegan. towards the end of the year around the holidays i started binge eating again and the day after christmas my father died so i decided to go raw to straighten out my head, hopefully once and for all. i’m on a fast right now to clean my body of all that crap i’ve eaten in the past seven weeks and also to jump start the work on my head. the fast ends tomorrow (or friday, i haven’t decided yet) and want to start my raw life off the day after the fast. i’ve done a lot of reading on raw food diets and spoke to a raw foodest about it but i’m still kinda lost as to how exactly to start. I also ordered “12 Steps to Raw Foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food” but it hasn’t come yet. my question is, what should i buy? i don’t have to money for a dehydrator or a high speed blender (although i do have a blender) or a food processor (but i am ordering a World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer next monday and hope to buy a food processor by next month) my question is, how do i get started? what do i buy at the grocery store? what can i make and what can i eat (besides salads?) and are dates raw if sun dried? and are there any commercial available breads or grains that are raw?

thanks for all your help!

Well done for taking the decision to eat living food. You will find lots of recipes on this site, if you type in ‘salad’ or ‘cookies’ you will get a list of relevant recipes.

Start by having fresh fruit for breakfast or a smoothie.

For a main course try out a recipe or make a simple salad with a seed or nut dressing or an avocado.

Make sure you get lots of variety. Do a search on raw bread, you will find some good recipes.

Take your time, it’s a long journey to learning about this new way of eating. Read lots of book on the subject and chat to other raw foodies on the forums.

    Best Wishes

Great that you got that book, it is brilliant and the one that made me go raw too!

Dates are usually raw when sundried, and sometimes raw when just normally dried.

Look in second hand shops/thrift stores and ebay for a food processor. We have never paid more than

  • thank you guys! i really appreciate it.

raw buckwhat groats are a cost effecitve a readily available grain that make a great base for salads with avocado, sundried tomato, herbs, etc… as well as a great base for raw cereals, crackers, breads, and other dehydrated goodies. you can find it at your local health food store.
start off each day with a green smoothie (big handful dark leafy greens like baby spinach, one or two fruits, water). incredibly healthy and delicious.
