malchusmommalchusmom Raw Newbie

Hi, well how do i start. Im married to a vegan person. He's been vegan 9 yrs and we are together almost 5 yrs. My kids 4 and 3 are also vegan since day 1. I became vegan for almost a yr after been diagnose with thyroid problem. Thanks God i quit taking the medication and with the help of herbs got everything back in balance. My problem is this. I want to become vegan again, but is been sooooo hard for me now. When Fridays get here want to drink a couple of cocktails at home. Then i work driving all over during the week and is soooo hard for me to wait to eat till i get home. I used to work out all my life and this yr have not done it at all like i used to be. I cook delicious food and suuper healthy food for the family. I eat it also, but also like to eat out(subways, olive garden, red lobster, etc)

I do not eat none of the burger king and all that crap. But i do eat crappy. This situation makes me feel sad and need some advice and encouragement. I have to be healthy to my hubby and kids. I want to keep looking pretty and healthy for my hubby. But is been soo hard. I've done the master cleanse 2 times and it was wonderful everything that i felt. I recently bought the Vitamix and not using it as much as i will like.

HELP!!!

Thanks for reading and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well, first of all, I would recommit to the reasons you became a vegan in the first place. The most compelling are for the animals.

Maybe your husband can get involved and help out in the cooking? At least for him and the kids so you can focus on yourself a bit.

Sounds like you have a lot of cravings and the thyroid might not be in balance after all. I have thryoid issues and it can make me really hungry at times.

You need to plan ahead and get the right groceries so you can stay on track. Bring food with you so you are not tempted to eat out. Eating out is hard on the wallet too. Think about the money you could save if you planned ahead and made food. That money could eventually go to your child's education. Do it for them.

It sounds like you feel overwhelmed, malchusmom, so my best advice is to start slowly. You could take just one meal per day (breakfast is usually the easiest), and make it vegan. Try having as much fruit as you care for during breakfast. Then the rest of the day can stay exactly the same until eating healthy for breakfast has become a habit.

You could also start by simply cutting out one non-vegan food at a time. Or you could cut out out all your non-favorite non-vegan foods, only leaving your favorites. Then you can gradually cut back on those when you feel ready.

Remember, you don't have to make this change right away. It's isn't a race to the finish! ;)

    Hope that helps,

    Swayze

Thanks for your reply's girls!! I have to prepare mentally first. After 7pm that the kids go to bed i start craving chips, popcorn, crackers. I feel so guilty!!!

I will start this morning by walking on the treadmill and having a healthy fruit smoothie.

I will take this day by day.

    God Bless!!!

  • Take fruits with you always.

Also, association is very important. Make friends with other vegans!

I cant say i really know any real life vegans either malchusmom, dont let that put you off though they are out there hehe:). If you have any vegan restaurants where you live it can be helpful, i have one but its about an hour or two away so i dont get there often.

How hard is it to just eat a banana? Seriously? I live in a small town where NO ONE is vegan or raw. They think I'm crazy. Ya know what, billions of people have done harder things then eaten bananas instead of a steak.

I know, shame on me. =-/ i will do it for me and my family. Thanks for the encouragement.
